Hi guys -
Anyone here have their Fallopian tubes removed laparoscopically? I’m scheduled for Tuesday morning...just wondering how bad/painful the recovery actually is?
Thanks!

@ChitownRo: No direct experience with a complete removal but from what I have heard. The gas pain is the worst of it. I have had my tubes tied during a csection but the csection pain overshadows the tubal so it was hard to tell how Much was caused by the tubal

@Mrsbells: this is what my sister said. She said worst part was the gas pain after. They sort of inflate your abdomen or whatever and then the residual gas takes some time to dissipate. Overall though she said it wasn’t terrible. She spent 2 days taking it easy but then felt fine.
And same, I got mine removed during CS so there was just too much already going on down there to know what was from tubal vs CS.

Totally off topic, but do you mind sharing why you are considering this route?
@SweetiePie: Same. Feel free to wall

@SweetiePie: so they let you remove times during a c section and not just tie? I want to have mine fully removed when I'm done, but wasn't sure if I could do it all at once.

@Sams Mom: Yes, I didn’t even know about removal when I first asked. I told my doc I wanted to get them tied during my CS and she said they are moving away from just ligation, they now remove them or a portion of them. So when I signed the paperwork to do it during CS it said removal.

@SweetiePie: awesome, I'm doing it because of ovarian and breast cancer history in my family. Studies are showing full removal can prevent ovarian cancers

@LBee: I don’t have family history of ovarian cancer but am interested in reducing risk. But my main reason is a little crazy. Since I work in oncology, I see horrible tragedies all of the time. Basically, if I were to die young, I’d want my husband to get remarried and if he married someone younger, they could still have a biological child. If he were to die, I def wouldn’t ever get pregnant again anyway bc I’d be too old

@ChitownRo: I do not work in oncology and have also thought about this, so I must be crazier than you
I'm not totally sure we're done but considering this for when we're 1000%.

Had a tubal with my repeat CS. Asked about removal but my doctor said she only likes to do those as a separate surgery so she just cut and tied mine.
I agree on the gas pains, take the gas meds they give you! The pains can move up in your neck and shoulder and feel like a heart attack as an FYI (but its just gas!)

@ChitownRo: Honestly, I've never thought about it that way (If I die before DH and he remarries/have more kids) but I think your logic might have convinced me to go this route versus vasectomy.

I had laparoscopic surgery for an ectopic pregnancy so obviously not the same situation... but recovery wasn't bad. I woke up a little nauseous and once the pain meds wore off the gas pain set it and that was pretty uncomfortable for the first 36ish hours. After that recovery was a breeze.

@psw27: my husband and I actually both had our “tubes tied” I had a tubal during c/s and he has a vasectomy once I was healed. We both decided that if something tragic happened that neither of us wanted more kids. People think it’s a little nutty to both get done but we each decided independently that we had enough kids for us.

@MsMini: we also both have our tubes tied. I think it makes good sense because we both know people who got pregnant after a tubal or vasectomy, so we feel like us both getting it really doubles up on being sure we have no more babies.
@lioneyes: yes I asked about complete removal but apparently there is already too much blood loss with a csection that doing a complete removal is risky during a csection

Thanks everyone for all of your responses.
My update 11 hour later - so far so good. It was my first experience w general anesthesia so my throat is a little sore, especially if I talk too much (like reading one 5 minute book to the toddlers) then it’s really irritated. The abdominal pain isn’t bad. I think they gave me a little fentanyl in the recovery room. I’ve taken 500 mg Tylenol since then. I plan to take a norco 5 before bed. So- so far, so good

@Mrsbells: my husband thinks I’m crazy but I want him to get a vasectomy even though I plan on getting my tubes tied during my next c section. We also know people who have gotten pregnant after one or the other and I don’t even want a little chance of that happening.
