DH and I are planning a trip in August with my kids, parents, and a couple of my cousins, but looking for suggestions. We live on the East Coast and don't want a super long flight. DS will be three and DD will be 9 months. Was thinking maybe USVI, but don't know much about them. Def want a beach vacation. Open to any ideas!

Miami? We went when DS was about 18 months. I was pleasantly surprised and loved how calm and warm the ocean was. There's plenty to do for older kids too.

We went to Captiva and Sanibel last year and thought it was great. Very chill. Easy flight to Ft Meyers then a not-too-long drive out to the islands!

We're planning on going to Destin this summer which is on the Florida gulf coast. The beaches are really nice there, and there's a ton of family friendly stuff to do there.

I'd be hesitant about the Caribbean in August. Hurricanes. Get trip insurance.
We go to the outer banks one or two times a year for a week (we live in the northeast). We loooooove obx. -
Outer Banks or Sandbridge, VA if you don't want to have to fly (although not sure where on the East Coast you are).

Another vote for North Carolina - they have lots of beaches in the southern part where you can rent big houses, cheaper than outer banks and myrtle beach. My parents live near Topsail Island and Surf City and when we visit, it's the best.
If you want to go North, we like Rehobeth and Bethany beaches, in Delaware!

@skipper2010: We have been looking for similar. Where on the east coast are you? In my family, the Zika virus is still an issue (not sure everyone is done having kids, plus the guillain barre syndrome connection), so we've been looking at Bermuda, Florida, or a cruise leaving out of NYC or Marlyand or Boston, so we don't have to fly.
There's also a Club Med Florida that has children's clubs (even for babies!) if the parents want a break from parenting, as well as included meals and baby food and kid's food, etc.

August is hurricane season so I'd probably avoid the Caribbean (and I assume it would be ridiculously hot in August?). I was going to suggest OBX or Hilton Head like some PP.

@Anagram: I LOVE Bermuda. Went there once with DH and it was beautiful. I'll look into that again too. It's pricey, but worth it. I'm in New England.
