We are hoping to come to the US for a month in September! We'll be spending most of the time in New York and Los Angeles (Harry Potter World) visiting friends and family.
But we'd like to squeeze in a new to us destination as well. I was thinking about Antelope Valley/Grand Canyon because I've never been!
Any other good ideas for a family trip?

Maybe yellowstone? Seeing you are coming from surf and sand, you won't need another beachy vacation! Banth, tho not in US, is breath taking too!

-Monument Valley, UT.

Another vote for Yellowstone - you can hit up Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons as well when there - beautiful!!!!

Grand Canyon is awesome, you could also visit Joshua Tree or Mammoth if you want to stay in the SoCal region. If you're willing to go up the coast, you could hit Big Sur and Monterey. Yosemite and Tahoe are awesome also, but a much further drive.

Bryce and Zion aren't too horribly far from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and are amazing

For some reason my parents took us to Yosemite over Yellowstone as kids. I think there are more family friendly hikes?

Bryce Canyon is awesome, as is Joshua Tree. Personally, Nashville is near the top of my travel bucket list. I've heard such great things about the city and the music scene there. I've also always wanted to visit San Antonio and/or Austin, TX. So, throwing some non-national parks into the mix for you!

@snarkybiochemist: @Mrs. Bee: We did Grand Canyon and Zion in one trip. We flew into Vegas and drove up through Zion and looped back around to the Grand Canyon.

Yellowstone is a TON of driving, so if car sick kids, you may want to look into other places. We easily logged 40 hours in the car going around Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks over a week.
Grand Canyon is still a pretty long drive from Vegas/Flagstaff, it's a very full day or an overnight to make it more manageable.

I'm biased, but Crater Lake and the Oregon Coast. SO beautiful and in September, the weather is going to be perfect!

San Diego (great food, beaches, kid places)
Death Valley National Park (gorgeous, SO many different things to see, the largest NP in the 48 states)
NV:
Valley of Fire State Park
More here, but I haven't done a lot of NV
