I am on the hunt for a new baking recipe book. I was something that goes beyond the skill level of cookies, brownies, etc. I would like to make pies, cakes, tarts, breads etc...but I am still a beginner. I want something doable with delicious recipes. Any suggestions?

Following! I’ve had some baking textbook type books on my Amazon wishlist for years, as I’d love to learn not just good recipes but the how’s and why’s behind baking. But they are super expensive, so hopefully someone has a cheaper option! The ones I have saved are called “On Baking” and “Baking and Pastry Mastering the Art and Craft”.

Oh man, so many good ones. Anything from Rose Levy Beranbaum (the Cake Bible) are classics and have really good info on why things work in baking. Others I have that I've cooked from and would recommend: Bravetart, Hoosier Mama pie cookbook (a local shop but you can get the cookbook online - seriously excellent pie crust info), and Ottolenghi Sweet.

@crazydoglady: I’d look at used book stores. I got this fantastic Good housekeeping Illustrated book of desserts a few years ago from a used cookbook. It’s fantastic because it includes photos and step by step instructions for all types of desserts. It gave me confidence to really try some fancier desserts as I developed skills.
