Can you recommend one that you love? We switched daycares and now my kids need to bring water bottles everyday, and so far the ones we’ve bought either leak like crazy or the paint chips super fast! We’ve also tried the CamelBack kids ones but they don’t like biting on the straw, I’d prefer bottles with an open spout or just opening and no straw!

Contigo kids has been a great one for us! Year 2 at daycare and in great shape.

We use the Thermos Funtainer. It keeps the drinks cold and doesn't drip or sweat. I only use water in them for now so keeping them clean hasn't been an issue.
They usually run around $15 or so. I went on Amazon and bought a bunch that were on sale. Luckily they happened to be the Batman and Cars ones so my kids still liked them.

Thermos hands down. Either the stainless or there is a clear plastic one. Granted, my younger one chucked one of them so much that the lid lock mechanism eventually broke, but I will still buy this again and again b/c it's literally 4 parts, you can see/clean everything, so no way for mold to develop!

I actually really prefer the Camelbak Edy kids to the Contigo ones. I've found that the Contigo mouthpieces get moldy and can't be cleaned or replaced, but you can buy replacement bite valves for the Camelbaks.

@graceandjoy: same over here. I love them. My youngest just broke one of the lids of one his older sibling had for two years before him. Sigh. Now it leaks because it tips over in the car seat or stroller all the time and I have to outfit changes. So frustrating that it’s just a tiny piece of plastic and is unfixable.

we have thermos stainless funtainers and I'm pretty happy with them. my son's design is half worn off but it takes pretty heavy abuse. I love that they never sweat and they stay cold, I've had no leaking once they're closed and I find it easy to clean the straws.

@hitchhiker: contigo has a lifetime warrantee so if it breaks or gets moldy or whatever you can email the company and they’ll send you a new one. I have actually gotten a few replacements from them- it takes a while but they do respond. But I won’t buy more of them because it’s really annoying to have to bother with that.
Our camelback eddy ones always leak after a few weeks with a new replacement spout. It’s very annoying.So I vote thermos funtainer as well. They aren’t perfect and I get annoyed pulling the pieces apart to clean (but I get annoyed easily...) but I throw everything in the dishwasher and it’s fine. And it’s the only one that hasn’t leaked.

This is just a cheapie (ish) ZAK! from Target that has held up well so far. It's been through the dish washer at least a dozen times on sanitary cycle, and I don't let him have milk in it because I don't think they ever get clean from that.

Does anyone have a recommendation for what size water bottle is best for a kindergartener? 12 or 16 ounce?

@PurplePeony: my kid is just entering kindergarten, but I’m keeping the smaller 12oz bottle because it’s lighter when full. They can refill it when necessary. That’s my logic anyway. So much stuff to carry and they’re so little.

Thanks so much everyone! Looks like we'll try the funtainer! @PurplePeony: And I agree we stick with 12 oz because it gets so heavy when full and carrying with their lunch and backpack, and at both my kids schools they can fill them up throughout the day.

We have and LOVE these. Found them at a Neighborhood Walmart and they're the best water bottles we've ever had.

Hydroflask kids, hands down. I have 0 complaints.
When one of the seals broke on ours, Hydroflask sent us an entirely new water bottle.

My kids weren't fans of the Camelbaks either--didn't keep their drinks cold, the valves kept ripping, the straws would leak, blah blah blah. All the kids at OD's school had S'well stainless steel bottles, so after a lot of begging from my OD I did splurge on a couple S'well bottles for my girls. They do keep their drinks very cold, and I do love that they're easier to wash. But my girls are 9 and 5, I don't know if I could trust younger ones to not make constant spills with the S'well bottles.

@missyoori: I just bought a generic straw top that fits my swell. i really like it and am thinking of buying one for my 2 year old because I'd never trust her without a straw top that clamps down. She chews through other plastic straws like the camelbak eddy. I know gross! this one is hard plastic. there are bit marks on it from her but no damage (so far)
