We are starting to daydream / plan out our vacation time for next year because we finally both will have 3 weeks of vacation available to use. The kids will be 3 and 1 when we travel, probably this winter (like Feb/March) and then again in the summer.
If you've traveled with two young kids, what have your favorite trips been?

We haven't done this with two kids yet, but this March with went with our then 20 month old to Puerto Rico and it was pretty great. (Almost) Guaranteed good weather, direct flight from boston on jet blue, no customs or passports to deal with. We stayed in a vrbo condo at a resort with a pool, beach, and hot tub and stuff- having a separate bedroom was key for sleeping with the toddler and we could still hang out while she napped or went to bed. If you go that route happy to give more specifics. We have talked about going back but will wait until this baby that is still cooking is a little bigger.

What types of vacations do you like? Do you want to fly or drive? Geographic region?
I'm not a huge fan of long car trips but we did a mini one this summer with my two (4yo and 1.5). Other than that, I think it really just depends on what you and your SO are interested in doing and seeing. We are lucky that our kids kind of just go along with whatever we are doing without too much fuss.

@lamariniere: We're sort of up for anything! We live near Boston and are open to flying or driving. We regularly visit in-laws that are 7+ hours away by car so we're used to long car trips.

@HappyBaker: we stayed in Rio Grande, at a resort called Rio Mar. I will send you links during nap- my friends parents live there for the winter so it was really helpful having inside info!

We've done Encinitas and Imperial Beach in San Diego- lots to do, mostly for the three year old, but a good relaxed atmosphere.
Lately we have been renting VRBO cabins near Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Parks. We can eat breakfast, go for a hike, have a car nap while exploring the park, then hit a playground. These are by far my favorites.
We just did the northeast, while it was fun, I think we would have had more fun if they were older. It wasn't very relaxing, but you live there, so no need to go there

We have done beach vacations with our kids (Mexico, Royal Caribbean cruise, VRBO at Gulf Shores) and they do really well. I tend to go for all inclusive or cruises though because I don't like to drive, do laundry/dishes/cook, etc when I am on vacay!

Another vote for Puerto Rico, and also Bahamas. They might be direct flights for you.

@HappyBaker: walled you info about PR, but also for summer, we just went to the Squam Lake area in NH for the long weekend and it was great. Nice and laid back, hung out on a lake beach (no waves, warmer water, so good for toddlers and wimpy moms), rented a boat, took out a kayak. Some of that might be harder with the one year old though. It was nice that it was under a 2 hour drive from the city.

We took our 3 year old and 1 year old to Disney World in July and it was a BLAST! I was so surprised how much age and height-appropriate rides and activities there were for both girls to do.

We went to Anna Maria island on the west coast of Florida. Direct flight from Boston and we rented a condo with a pool right on the beach. There's a free trolley that you can take into town. There isn't a ton to do but it was very family friendly and isn't a "spring break" spot, so it was relatively quiet at night.

We've been going to Sanibel Island, FL for the past two years and love it! Also a direct flight from Boston to Fort Myers and then a relatively short drive (30 mins) to the island. Very family friendly and great weather when we go in mid March.
