Have you been to Charlottesville, VA recently? What's your favorite place to eat and what is your favorite winery? I'm headed there for a girls weekend in a few weeks.

Veritas Vineyard is about 30 min outside c-ville and is lovely. I went to UVA but it's been years since I've been back. My mom goes regularly, though, and loves restaurants -- I'll ask her about some of the more recent good places and report back! I know there are a lot of excellent newer places I haven't been

Try King Family, Veritas, Pollak, or Pippin Hill for wine.
For food, try Maya, Bizou, The Local, or Mas.
@oliviaoblivia: My friend had a horrible experience at the Alley Light. I've been afraid to try it, although I did just see that the chef has been nominated for a James Beard award.

@oliviaoblivia: @Pancakes: thank you! We love food as much as, if not more than, wine so meals are very important.
@MrsSCB: thank you!

I went to JAG school out there! The Whiskey Jar!!!!! The best peach cobbler I've ever had, and I don't like peach cobbler! Very good food, reasonably priced. We also went to the Jefferson winery, and it was my first winery experience. I enjoyed it, and ended up buying two bottles!

Pippin Hill is really pretty for a vineyard. Then you can go right across the road to Dr. Ho's for really good pizza. Have a Fat n' Sassy on me! There are tours that will take you to all the spots, and there are also good breweries here, too.
As for restaurants, there are just so many! The blog Kath Eats Real Food has a good running listhe of options. And if you're still looking for a place to stay, check out Stay Charlottesville. Really nice homes.

@Happygal: thanks for reminding me there are other options than just standard hotels. I found a place downtown for cheap on AirBnB.

@mediagirl: OK, here's what I got from my mom haha. She loves food
"Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyard (also good place for lunch). Alley Light Restaurant, and Fleurie on the downtown mall. Alley Light has French small plates and craft cocktails. It is behind Revolutionary Soup and up a stairway (no signage and reservations by e-mail only). I still like Duners. Bella's is good for pigging out Italian. Parallel 38 at Stonefield is a good casual restaurant, serving small plates of food from countries on the 38th parallel. Burton's, also at Stonefield, is a reliable small chain restaurant. Duck Donuts at Stonefield is yummy. Ace Biscuit and Barbecue -- seating at picnic tables outside, maybe not good depending on weather. Have not been to Oakhart Social or Public Fish and Oyster, but they have great reviews. Lampo for pizza. The Pigeon Hole is a good breakfast place in an old house."
And I'll add my two cents I love Duner's, that's the nice place my parents used to take us when visiting. They don't take reservations, though, and it's pretty small so you will likely have a wait. Definitely go to the Downtown Mall at some point -- it's a lot of fun and quintessential Charlottesville. If you don't eat there, you can find a few coffee places to pick something up and walk around. And Duck Donuts -- best donuts ever! (It started in Duck, NC, on the Outer Banks, there's no duck in the donuts, just to clarify lol).

@MrsSCB: @mediagirl: Aahhhh, I almost mentioned Ace Biscuit and Barbecue, but didn't because of the seating...we just get take out. The Ace's Dip (I think it's called) is goooood.

@MrsSCB: your mom is so hip! I agree with all of those.
Mas tapas is fun with friends, but there will likely be a long wait on the weekends. I like Tavola in the Belmont area, too. Mudhouse is good for coffee on the downtown mall, but Shenandoah Joe's is king. Oooh--Mona Lisa Pasta is good for take away sandwiches or slices of pizza and they make great espresso drinks, too.
This is making me so hungry.

I went to school in Cville.
King Family is my favorite vineyard. Barboursville is farther away but really nice.
I adore Tavola and Mas is so so good.
There is a gas station with sandwiches and they are the best ever. Sounds weird but I miss them all the time. Belmont http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g57592-d416723-Reviews-Bellair_Market-Charlottesville_Virginia.html
