Well, AF didn't show and DH reminded me I had a couple FRER that I stashed in his basket under the sink (they made me sad to look at after my loss in the fall) so looks like tomorrow is POAS day

@mrskansas: @azjax: @jhd: @bushelandapeck: @madisonbee: Thanks guys! I am still a little in shock. I am going to see if I can get some betas ordered, I am nervous after my previous loss and still feel great other than being SUPER bloated today.

@MsMini: Congrats!
@azjax: Thanks for asking I think I'm going to call first thing in the morning and see if my RE's office can test my RBC and thyroid level, or if they won't, try to get my PCP to order it. I was talking to a pregnant woman today at work and she was saying that she has been feeling absolutely exhausted and no appetite, and it turned out her thyroid hormones were off. And I was thinking hm, that's pretty much how I feel, minus being pregnant. I was hoping to just ask about it at my post op appt Fri b/c it is hard to keep rearranging work around appts and blood draws, but if something is wrong I'd rather fix it now and if not, at least it will give me peace of mind that this is normal.
The hormonal end of things has also kind of sucked. Lots of crying and feeling pretty anxious, but I think this should get better as the hormone levels fall. A cheapie was still instantly blazing positive today, 11 days post D&E, so I have a feeling it will take awhile. It's crazy, there was nothing I wanted more in the world than a positive pregnancy test when we were trying, and now I just want it to be negative....

@periwinklebee: I hope you start feeling better soon. And I agree it might help to have thyroid levels checked. I discovered mine was completely off track at a physical last spring. And just last week went for a check up and they were off again, although to a lesser degree than before.

@jhd: Ugh yuck. I hope yours is better soon. It wasn't really on my radar, but 30 seconds of googling thyroid and pregnancy pulls up infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, and other scary stuff. It definitely makes me want to get it checked out, plus I'd like to feel better regardless.

@periwinklebee: ask about hemoglobin and I think thyroid are a good idea too.

@periwinklebee: don't google too much my OB, who I really trust, told me not to worry about it. So did my regular doc. They are keeping tabs on my levels and aren't worried about increased risk of miscarriage or anything. So basically if that is the issue it won't be as bad as dr google makes it sound!!

@periwinklebee: Good luck getting your blood count and thyroid tested. I also have low thyroid (high TSH) and my doctor wants to see my levels below 2.5 for pregnancy, rather then the 4 they say is normal for the general population. I am on 75mcg of synthroid and my levels are good, but it's taken since August to get me here and my levels were only 4.8.

@mrskansas: @mrsbubbletea: @jhd: @snarkybiochemist: Thank you all, this is helpful the nurse was pretty dismissive when I called and said they're usually not concerned about this unless you're filling more than one pad an hour or in significant pain or have some sort of pre-existing condition that would cause problems, but that she would ask a doctor if he wanted me to come in for a CBC.
If their office won't do it, I can try my PCP. I'm pretty sure they'd do a CBC but may not check thyroid - my PCP is a small clinic run by my employer and they won't do much before referring out. I understand that unnecessary medical tests are worth avoiding but argh, I really hate having to deal with the system.
@jhd: Hah, hah, after like 30 seconds on google, I was like "that's enough."

@periwinklebee: I hope they are able to hear your concerns and take you seriously.

@periwinklebee: in terms of getting back to 0 for HCG, it took me about 3 weeks and my max level was 3,000. My OB said there is tremendous variation with the time to reach 0, though.
FWIW, my Mom had thyroid issues for her last pregnancy and my sister came out totally fine! Back in the 90's my Mom's Dr.s balmed her sluggishness, etc on laziness!!! She did have to see a specialist to get sorted.

@snarkybiochemist: Thank you
@azjax: Ugh, seriously, laziness? I've been there before with doctors, though not on this issue - had a really horrible doctor back in college, and a couple of pretty bad ones growing up, and it makes me still really dread dealing with medical stuff. I think my HCG was something like 40,000, so ugh, I wonder if that means a few months to zero out, or if it will just drop fast. As you say though, no alternative but to wait and see.

@periwinklebee: for me, the first 2 weeks HCG went down slowly and then the levels just fell off a cliff and I ovulated a week later. If you're still getting positives after two more weeks, I would ask for a beta and if they can evaluate you for retained tissue (although rare with D&C).

@periwinklebee: I found out I had a missed miscarriage back in the first week of June. I'm not sure what my HCG level was when I lost the baby (maybe 3 weeks earlier?), but when I found out (at 10/11 weeks) my level was in the upper 34,000. I choose to miscarry naturally it it took until the end on July before my level were low enough to have a negative on a POAS. I remember the day actually, July 24. I had stopped doing blood draws so I don't have any set numbers to share. Give your self time to heal. I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

@azjax: That's good to know that it worked like that for you - I kind of expected the opposite, steep at first and then very slow... I'm thinking they may test my levels at my post-op appt in a few days, but not sure...
@SugarMaple: I'm sorry for your loss I know that I just need to be patient and give it time. Between feeling absolutely exhausted and I think having some anxious feelings related to the hormone drop, it's been a little hard not to worry that my body is going to do a poor job recovering, but I've been trying to bring my focus back to today and be more optimistic. I feel like the whole TTC process has really reduced my confidence in my body - first it took awhile to conceive and then we lost a pregnancy because of an SCH that meant the fetus couldn't get nutrients and grow. I try not to go down the rabbit hole of worrying that we'll get stuck in a loop of difficulty conceiving and loss (but yeah, I worry about it anyways). There's so much luck that goes into it and I try really hard to take care of myself, so hopefully things will work out eventually...

@MsMini: I try to wait and look at tests two days apart - I've had successful tests look the same two days in a row, it's hard to tell, but I think you often see darkening by 2 days when the hcg should have doubled. It's just too early to tell!
grapefruit / 4466 posts
@MsMini: They may need to be a few days apart to see darkening, or more, depending on the type of test.
grapefruit / 4056 posts
@bhbee: @periwinklebee: I knew I probably shouldn't have tested today but I am so anxious. I am at work today (I'm an NICU nurse) and half want to out myself so I can run down and get blood work ordered today.

@knittylady: @SugarMaple: The only problem is that I basically have to advertise to the whole hospital that I am pregnant to do it LOL. People talk way too much here. I am tempted though, especially since my immediate coworkers know because I had to refuse a patient today (had a virus we can't contact while pregnant)
nectarine / 2821 posts
@MsMini: ugh it's such a pain having to tell everyone at work so early when you are unsure! I feel your pain! I also have to be careful with patients we have during procedures since we have all ages, or sometimes psych patients, and you could potentially get kicked, so usually we have to tell pretty much right away.
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@mrsbubbletea: I'm a ball of anxiety. First beta is tomorrow and like, I get anxious just thinking about how it will feel to see my doctor's number show up with the results. It honestly feels like I would be floored if this didn't end this week.
