On the first day of daycare, did you stick around for a while (an hour or longer) or did you drop them off, chat a bit, and leave? Not sure what the best approach will be for my son's 1st day of daycare!

I stayed for 10 minutes then we left and had breakfast! It was definitely hard but I didn't want to stay too long and get emotional.

We only stayed maximum 10 minutes. It is hard enough to leave them, we didn't want to prolong it.

I'm torn on whether I want to drop her off with my husband or not :(. I start at 8:30 and him at 10 so if he drops off she'll spend less time at daycare. We still gotta talk about that.

10 minutes? oh wow, I was thinking of staying with him an hour! haha. I guess I need to let go once in a while. sigh.
@regberadaisy: When will your LO start daycare?

I stayed about 15 minutes, long enough to give them her last feeding time and a quick rundown of her usual schedule. The daycare we used actually allowed us to do a couple "trial" days before our official start so the first time I actually left her there it wasn't on her first day. If your daycare offers this I'd highly recommend it (I only left her for about 3hrs so I could get my hair done but it did help with the transition).

I didn't linger ... I felt like she would cry if I stayed for 10 minutes or 1 hour so I just left after signing in and getting all her things in order.
I have noticed that parents who stay for a long time at drop off...have the clingiest kids...go figure, huh?

I'm a teacher so I know that staying does not help the situation....so 1st day was kiss & hug & goodbye. My provider has a book that we write notes about feeding and sleeping, and well text throughout the day if something comes up or if she has questions. The speedy departures have been good, now that it's routine, baby knows that it's goodbye, otherwise he may expect that I hang out.

As a pediatrician I also recommend short and sweet. 10 minutes max!

Gah--I did the opposite of what everyone recommends. My LO was 11 months old and absolutely not used to strangers. I opted for this really long drawn out process. The first visit was with both of us for about 30 minutes. And then both of us for about 1 hour the next time. And then we did half days for a week. And then we did slightly longer days for a week before going full on for a week before I had to be at work. That meant that all in all it was like 3.5 weeks of trying it out. It worked for us, but it was a really long process. Ha.
