If you knew around how many weeks you were pregnant, how long is the longest you would wait to go for your first doctors appointment? Or how long did you wait?

I called right away and was schedule for 8 weeks which is when the doc likes to start visits. We got to see the heartbeat on the ultrasound and it made it much more real!

I think it was 8 weeks. We got to see the baby and the heartbeat on the ultrasound.

I saw my family doc a 5 weeks, but the OB's in the area don't usually see patients until 9-10 weeks.

So it looks like most of you saw at around 8 weeks. I am not prego yet so I don't know what my OB likes to do yet. Just curious

I called right away, when in at almost 6 weeks. They just took blood, urine, and checked out my cervix and uterus. I got back at 7w5d for an ultrasound.
When you do get pregnant and call, definitely ask what the first appointment includes cause if it is an ultrasound your SO will want to be there.

I saw my OB/GYN when I was four weeks. I got my BFP on Sunday, called Monday, went in on Wednesday. She likes to see her patients ASAP to do blood an go over any questions we might have. Then she had us go in a few weeks later for an ultrasound. I am so glad I didn't have to wait a long time to see her.

My first appointment was at 8 weeks. I think my practice likes to bring people in between 7 and 8 weeks normally for the first appointment.

mine wouldn't see me until 8 weeks - and even so, it was just a basic appt with the nurse practitioner. she took medical history, gave me information, gave me an order for blood work.
the actual OB wouldn't see me until 10 weeks, when she did a vaginal ultrasound to date the pregnancy.

Wow 10 weeks? It seems like every doctor is different. I guess if I ever get my BFP I will just have to call and find out when is the earliest they will see me.

@anonysquire: yup, they said they'd call if there were issues with the 8 week blood work, but that at their practice they don't see anyone earlier than 10 weeks. I've heard that about a lot of places, actually! kind of strange.

When I called, they said they like to schedule them between 6-8 weeks. I'll be 7 weeks and 3 days when I go for mine.

mine wouldn't see me until 8 weeks - BUT i went on a small tangent about how it had taken us 3 years to get pregnant and that i was freaking out and HAD to come in right away for peace of mind they got me in at 5 weeks!

I called right away, had a meeting around 6-7 weeks I went in and met with the nurse, and they took a medical questionaire, and went over payment and any questions I had. At 9 weeks I met with my doctor and we listened for the heartbeat, and in my case had an ultrasound because she thought there was a possibilty I was further along than I really was. (not the case, but they found a large cyst)

I went to see my regular doctor first and he confirmed I was pregnant with blood work and once I got that confirmation he referred me to an OB and I called her right away and got my 1st appointment at 6 weeks 1 day

You can call and ask the receptionist. I just scheduled mine and I'll be around 8 weeks for my first appointment. I think some clinics allow you do schedule earlier to see a NP and not the doctor until 8-10 weeks where you'll get an ultrasound and comprehensive prenatal checkup.

It actually depends on your practice. Some have you in by 7 weeks and others 9 weeks. My first appointment was at 9 weeks.

I'll just tell you, be prepared to feel like the time between your BFP and your first doctor's appointment/ultrasound will feel like the longest stretch of time in the history of the universe.

The first time I was scheduled for my annual exam about a week after I got my BFP. I called the office to give them a heads up. They did my annual as usual but also drew blood to check my levels. Two days later I went back for my first OB visit at around 7w and got an order for a vaginal ultrasound to date the pregnancy at 8 or 9w (I can't remember exactly as it has been 2years).
This time I called the Monday after I got my BFP (it was on a weekend). They had me come in a couple of times for blood work to check my levels then I saw the OB at 8w and had the vaginal ultrasound at 9w.
