His flat head should even out when he starts sleeping on his tummy. My LO had an assymetric head because she slept on her side a lot. After she started flipping over and sleeping on her tummy her head evened out.

My DD really started to be sitting up and awake more around 5-6 months & that really helped her head to round out. You could also ask her doctor if you are concerned. Good luck!

@chopsuey119: did you have to teach your LO how to sleep on her tummy? My LO hates tummy time as it is, he can't seem to understand that he can rest on his tummy too... also, he is still being swaddled (woombie) b/c w/o it, he would use his hands to bother his face and won't be able to stay asleep...
@sulli301: did your DD have a flat head before 5-6 months too? how long did it take her head to round out?
thanks!!

@reggie: I didn't have to teach her. At around 4 months she learned how to flip onto her belly. It would wake her up and I would have to flip her back over for the first week or so, but now she prefers her tummy and will sleep on it about 90% of the time.

My mom swears to ensure a round head you need to always changing your baby's head position when you put them down to sleep. If it's possible, can you try switch his head position, so he's not always sleeping on the back of his head.
My siblings and I have very round heads if there's any proof to my mom's method.

we always changed charlie's head position when he slept, and his flat head corrected itself pretty quickly. is the flat part in the back of the head or the side? you can put him to sleep on the opposite side of the crib so that he turns his head to the nonflat side to even his head out.

Same here. We switched his head position when he slept too. When he napped (and one of us was watching him) or when he was just lying there playing, we used a donut head pillow.

@Mrs. Bee: we try to put him down on different sides but then he tends to move while he sleeps so he just sleeps however he likes anyway... his back of the head is really flat. i think his left side is a bit flatter than right.. but the whole back of his head is just flat

@chopsuey119: you are so lucky! eli is flipping over from back to tummy constantly now but he hates to be on his tummy and he is still being swaddled while he sleeps so I think I might have to bite the bullet and try it without and see how that goes...

@reggie: The donut head pillow is concave (where the hole is) so when your little one rests his head on it, it doesn't make it flat. My LO has a bubble head and I swear it helped him keep the roundness. lol. I used it on his car seat and changing table too. Basically anywhere his head to lay down.

@banana: i'm totally gonna get it!! i really hope it corrects his flat head! i just put him down for bed and i used a receiving blanket as a wedge so he is tilted to the right... from the camera it looks like he is sleeping on the right side of his head... i'm gonna try to alternate from side to side from now on and hope it helps

@reggie: I bought 2 cause I used it everywhere. Stroller, car seat, changing table, bouncer....It'll take a little time to round it back out but just keep at it (use the donut pillow and alternative sides) and it should be round in no time.

Glad you are noticing this and taking action for Baby E! The position of an infant’s head needs to be changed throughout the day so that they do not begin to favor a certain area of the head, which can ultimately lead to the development of a flat spot on the head as you are noticing and elongated neck muscles on one side. Because you are already seeing these symproms, you may want to speak to your pediatrician about the possible treatment options. There are plenty of techniques you can implement:hen feeding your son, try alternating the arm you hold him in, and encourage him to turn his head to a different side each time he is fed. Alternate the side of the changing table you stand on when changing his diaper to encourage him to turn his head in alternate directions in order to look at you. Make sure to keep implementing plenty of supervised “tummy time” during the day, and try massaging your son's neck when he is relaxed and calm to encourage stretching on both sides of the neck. Finally, try to place interesting and stimulating toys in new locations around his crib/room so he will have to turn his head different directions in order to see the toys. Physical therapy might be another option to discuss with your pediatrician. Good luck and keep us posted!

@reggie can you post a photo? I'm just curious! My baby girl also seems to have a slight flat head because she prefers eating on one side and is a swaddled back sleeper still (4 months old) my girl also shows ZERO interest in rolling over but wants to sit up constantly when awake! She also naturally hates her tummy time and frequently will fall asleep during it at daycare but then will refuse to nap on her tummy at home.
