DS1 had a helmet for a moderate flat spot on the right side of his head. This has made me a little anxious.
DS2 is almost 2 months. He sleeps in a RNP but can easily turn his head in both directions. He isn't a huge fan of tummy time but will do it a few times a day for five minutes. I've noticed the very back of his head is getting a flat spot.
I guess I'm looking for reassurance that it will work itself out and it pretty normal at this age.

2 time helmet mom here. My daughters helmet worked miracles!!! And my sons helmet didn't do anything. But his head looks better on his own for sure!!

Not an expert here by any means but I felt like my daughter had a very mild flat spot on her head in the very back around that age. It definitely caused an extreme bald spot right there. She also slept in rock n play for a bit and didn't soo much tummy time (reflux, ugh). Now at 6 mos it has rounded out nicely. Our ped has never mentioned anything about it. I think most mild cases do resolve themselves.

No experience really but my 3 month old has a big bald spot and I think a mild flat spot right on the back of her head too. My older never had it- but also hates being put down and sleeping. I'm going to ask about it at her four month appt in a few weeks and have been trying to do more tummy time, as well as do the carrier more than car seat / stroller.

Look down at his head from above. If the flat spot is symmetrical it's likely to resolve itself. If it is more pronounced on one side than the other, I would bring it up to your ped. With the back is best campaign there are a lot more cases of babies having flat spots on the backs of their heads but the large majority resolve on their own around 6 months when babies can sit up and spend significantly less time laying flat.

Even if it's symmetrical (and I hate to be the bearer of bad news) it might benefit from a helmet. My son's was pretty even but it was so flat in the back it was like a triangle, and affected his forehead and face (although I wouldn't have understood how if I hadn't gone in...I'm glad we did.) Dd was also flat but didn't get the helmet, and hers was more uneven. I think she looks perfectly fine now! Ds wore his for eight weeks and got it off today. We go in for images next week and could possibly get another (eta, if we wanted to be completely totally rounded already) but he just has a little flatness now, way way way better than before, and now he's a little more mobile (rolling, side sleeping.) Anyway at 2 months there's a good chance it'll resolve, just watch it. We started watching ds around then but even though we tried really hard to keep him off of it, it just got worse. I truly believe some kids are just way more prone to it.

I think you still have time for it to resolve itself. Babies are now in therapy for torticollis at almost 7 months (started therapy at 4 months). Therapy is helping and showing good progress. They are also rolling over and sleeping on their tummy now. Their heads do look better. At the 6 month appt, the pediatrician said their heads are looking much better and it's still early to be referred to a craniofacial specialist from what she saw.
