It's a steroid so I would double check.

My 3.5 year old has seasonal allergies for the first time this year and while our pediatrician recommended Zyrtec and Benadryl to try first she did say that if that didn't work to move on to Flonase.

@Lighthouse: I'd check with your pediatrician to hear their take, but we give it to our 15 month old daily and have since he was 1. He has a pretty severe dust mite allergy and without the Flonase he is super congested / snotty and his ears fill up with fluid (even though he has tubes). We dealt with almost a full year of ear infections and getting tubes only to realize his whole fluid situation was caused by the allergy.

Our pediatrician said they have to say not to use it on littler kids because they haven't done enough studies / testing on it - because not many people are signing up their small children for research like that.

It has completely cleared up my son's congestion and fluid issues, but we'll certainly reassess every 6 months or so to make sure we still need it. For us, the Flonase is better than the ridiculous amounts and dosages of antibiotics he has to be on when he gets an ear infection from the fluid!

My older daughter has been on it since December. She was just over 4 at the time. She's also on Singulair (chewable tablet) and Zyrtec/Claritin for her seasonal allergies. We've made it almost through Spring here without an allergy flare up.

Our ped is who prescribed all of the above for her.

@HappyBaker: My next step for my little one is the tubes, I'd rather not if its not necessary. How long who you say it took your little ones ear to drain all that liquid? Did you have a break period were you would stop the nasal spray and restart again?

@didal5: So DS got his tubes in March of 2016 and I posted this in April 2016, I'm pretty sure we stopped the Flonase by June of that year, as the tubes started doing their job and draining everything, and the air quality in our house in the spring and summer is way better than in the winter so the dust wasn't bothering him as much. The next winter he didn't need the Flonase at all -- he got a few ear infections but at least could use the drops since he had the tubes so they were way easier to treat. Although having them be under anesthesia is scary, I'd 100% do it again (My second DS is getting tubes in a few weeks!) because it helps drain the fluid so much and keep it at a much lower level than without them. For DS he started talking just a few weeks after having tubes because previously his entire life his ears were blocked with fluid which makes hearing difficult. Good luck!
