We bought mittens, the ones from Satsuma were the only ones that would stay on.

We still use mittens because he's a scratching monster due to his eczema. Even thought they're size 0 to 3 months, these ones run larger.

@shopaholic: yea the first few wks, they were so flimsy and his hands were so tiny... they fell off on their own. i don't think we cut them until the third or fourth week?

we had him wrapped in A+A blankets so he didnt really scractch at his face when he didnt have his hands covered. my mom was ALL about covering his hands tho

@shopaholic: i'd be interested to know why they said not to cut! i filed them until i was brave enough to cut them at like 2 weeks.

@Shopaholic: Where did you buy your sleepers with the foldover cuffs? My LO is a super scratcher/face rubber and she's outgrowing the four NB sleepers with the built-in mitts. Three of them are from Carter's and I thought I could pop on the website and buy some more in the next size up, but I couldn't find any! I recently found some at Old Navy but am not having luck elsewhere.

try socks, the six pack from carters it what I used. My son was a scratcher and I'm ashamed to say that I put sock on his hand till he was just shy of 2 years old. It wasn't just his face but he would start taking off his jammies to scratch. But he kept the socks on and they didn't fall off. No matter how often i trimmed his nails he would still scratch himself up and give himself rashes from all the scratching.

DD is still a face rubber/scratcher and she's 8.5 months now! I honestly wanted to sew my own mittens when the NB ones no longer fit, but I knew that wearing them wouldn't help with her mobility and hand function. I let her wear them for as long as they fit only because she would really dig into her face and sometimes her eyes! I think I took them off a few weeks before she turned 3 months old. (I had to double-check because I know I posted a video around the same time I took them off).

I TOTALLY agree--I think they should come standard on all NB and 0-3 month sleepers and onesies!

@Shopaholic Thanks for the tip! Maybe I would have better luck in the store than online.

Last night, we put socks on her with mittens over the socks to help them stay on better. The socks, BTW, were the kind that look like little Mary Janes, and they looked super weird on her hands! DH and I couldn't stop laughing.

@mamabear57: I love the satsuma mittens. Those are the only ones that stay on my LO.

@shopaholic: She is adorable! My DD is a crazy face rubber/scratcher too. I use to put mittens on her but now I just make sure I keep her nails really short. I'm still too scared to cut her nails so I just file them down almost every other day and I run my hands over them to make sure they are smooth, especially the corners.

I totally agree! The first 2 weeks we only had 1 sleeper with mitten cuffs so we used separate mittens and they never stayed on. I vastly preferred the mitten cuff sleepers until my LO was about 6 weeks old and stopped scratching her face.

Here's a brands in larger sizes than NB that have mitten cuffs, just in case you (or anyone else) needs them.

-Disney Baby Sleep and Plays have them up to 3 months (even though the picture has them for 6 mo+, they do not have cuffs. I ordered and found this out the hard way).

-Carters only have them in NB size only (at least that I could find). Not all NB sleepers have them though!

@shopaholic: I agree all nb stuff should have the cuffs. And some 0-3! Our nurses also said to wait to clip nails because they're so soft in the beginning it's very easy to cut the membrane/skin. I still just use a baby emory board and file them while she's eating and it keeps them smooth.
