LO woke up today refusing to wear anything but panties. Awesome, but I certainly wasn't planning on starting potty training over a very busy holiday weekend! Anyway, I'm thinking about pitying on the go and wondering of those foldable potty seats are really worth it. One of my potty training fears is taking her to public restrooms, so it would help my sanity. But I'm also all about streamlining and not carrying around a bunch of stuff everywhere I go. Thoughts?

Public restooms ick me out majorly, I don't sit on a public toilet under any circumstances....so when my son began potty training, I panicked.
I bought one of those folding seat, it folds in half and then half again and it's pretty bulky...we used it a few times and then I just ditched it. It was a good 6 inches wide when folded, no way I could carry that on a regular basis.
Now, when my son needs to use the restroom, I stand him up on the seat and let him pee down. It's a lot less stressful this way, but I don't know that it would work for a girl.

we never used one for charlie because he quickly learned to pee standing up. we do have one though and i plan on using it for olive. i have some public restroom issues!

We never had one and LO did fine in public restrooms--I think she liked the novelty. I am not super germs phobic though so it wasn't an issue for us. LO was able to hold it until we found a potty, and I would tell her when we went to a new place that they had a potty there. Good luck!

I have one and DD refuses to use it and she refuses to let me put TP on the seat - so I wipe the seat down to make sure its dry and then we wash our hands really well after -

We have one and it's great for going to family houses WHILE potty training. Once LO became fully potty trained, she was able to use a normal toilet seat with some assistance from us. It is not a complete necessity but it can be handy.

We never bought a travel toilet seat or toilet, chiefly because I knew I'd never carry it with us. His skin never touches public toilets because I hold him and he pees standing up. It isn't always super comfortable for either of us, but we've figured out the positions that work for him to get good aim. Squatting seems to work well now, but for a while I had to hover with him in a sort of seated position and make sure everything was going where it was supposed to go. It takes practice and a lot of baby wipes sometimes.

We used one with my DD for like ... A week and it just got gross to carry around and try to clean... With my DS he hates it... For us in hindsight it wasn't necessary ..we just make sure to do really good hand washing!

I hated carrying a folding seat type thing and the one we had wasn't even comfortable so I would skip that. It did work pretty well to keep a baby bjorn little potty in the trunk of the car for emergencies if that idea doesn't skeeve you out. I would line it with a diaper so that they basically peed in the diaper and I could just dispose of that. Once or twice I had a kid get really upset about going in a diaper and I had them go in the potty and then put the open diaper in face down to absorb the liquid. Not the world's best solution but in a pinch it was better than the side of the road.

It's probably not necessary but I'm going to get one anyway. I hate public restrooms and I don't want to try to wrestle a toddler and not touch anything. I'm so anxious about the whole thing.

We have two folding seats and we hate them, they dont fit on the oval toilet seats and they are unstable and my DD is scared of them. We use the removable seats. I know its gross but I keep clorox wipes, plastic bags in the potty seat tote.
We did what didn't scare her so she wouldnt be scared of potty training

Thanks everyone. We'll definitely get a little potty to stay in the car for emergencies, but we'll skip the folding seat. I don't really want to carry it around!
