Did you do anything special to prepare for TTC? Did you purposefully avoid certain things?

I avoided nothing, even within the TWW and didn't change my lifestyle in any way (except, obviously, for having unprotected sex!)

- I stopped taking the pill in March (we used condoms until we were ready to start trying)
- I started charting my cycles the first cycle after I stopped taking birth control
- I stopped drinking coffee about a month before we started trying (we were on our honeymoon, and I figured it would be easier to quit then than while I was at work)
- I stopped drinking alcohol at about day 12 in my cycle, and didn't plan on starting again until I got my period (which, amazingly, never happened. still waiting for that hoppy beer.)
- I had been taking a prenatal vitamin for a year prior to TTC (my doctor recommended it).
- I had an annual exam the month prior to TTC
Charting was the thing that helped the most, I think. I had a delayed ovulation due to traveling for a wedding the month I got pregnant, and there is no way I would have known that if I wasn't charting.
We weren't really expecting to get so lucky on the first try, but it was a nice surprise. I was just doing all those things to prepare to TTC & happened to have good luck.
My best friend has done all those things as well, and she is on cycle five of trying. Doesn't seem fair at all.

Nope. I did nothing. We weren't technically TTC, just having sex unprotected. I actually got drunk three days before my BFP

We stopped charting out of laziness (not necessarily TTC) and voila! I guess our timing was good! I would recommend having fun with it for a few months, then actively TTCing. It's a nice, free feeling! (Oh and I did have 2 glasses of red wine the week of conception--I didn't expect a BFP!)

I had been off the pill for a long time. I didn't do anything to prepare my body but I did use OPKs and pre-seed.

Preseed, sex 5-6 before before expected ovulation and 2-3 days after, we didn't skip a day. Butt up on a pillow...I didn't avoid anything and lived normally. I relaxed as much as possible.

I stopped taking the pill 3 months before we TTC. I charted with OPK from that point as well, so I had a decent handle on my cycle. I also added in folic acid with my multi once I came off BC and switched to a prenatal the month we TTC. Other than that, just lucky!

i got my BFP my first month trying, June 20th had my implanon removed and the had a BFP on July 28, But miscarried on 8/9. Looking back now i wish i would have stop my BC months earlier to clear it out of my body.

I got pregnant the first month with olive. Didn't do anything special except time baby dances around ovulation!
I got pregnant the second month of ttc the first time around. I'd been taking prenatal vitamins, but that's about it. That ended in a miscarriage though.

To be super honest we just had sex everyday from the last day of my period until 6 or 7 DPO and I took prenatals. We miscarried that first pregnancy, and again conceived right away in our miscarriage cycle doing the same thing.
Sorry I don't have a more innovative plan to share!

Does this mean you're moving up your timeline??

@Leialou: I wish! Just killing time and making sure I'm doing everything I can think of!

I had been off of hormonal BC for over a year (for other reasons) and we just didn't use protection for a cycle (previously I would be careful during the middle of my cycles although I had taken some risks when I was pretty sure I wasn't ovulating...) I was still shocked that I got pregnant that quickly. I know the same happened for my mother (and DH's mother) so maybe there is something to that! Lol. Also I'm in my early 20s so I had that going for me.

I had been taking prenatal vitamins for ~4 months prior, and made sure to keep my hips elevated (with my legs up on the wall) after DTD. Good luck!

I did nothing out of the ordinary. My first kid was a surprise kid we weren't even trying for, and the second was a first-month-we-tried baby. With both, we just had sex once, two weeks after my period. (It is totally weird to know the exact time your kid was conceived.) Of course, my husband claims it is all due to his amazing prowess and baby-making skills. And I just roll my eyes...

i was charting for 9 months beforehand so i knew what to look for in my cycle. we were using pre-seed and DTD every other day. i had a super long cycle though, so it was going on for a while.

Nope, nothing special. I think we had sex 3 times that whole month and were just lucky it hit during ovulation since i hadn't started charting yet.

I took my temp. But since it was the first month I really didn't have much info on what my body was doing....

@MrsCastro: My dr. actually encourages her patients to stay on BC until they want to get pregnant because going off BC causes your body to O even if your cycles aren't regular. She said that's why people not looking to get pregnant shouldn't have sex while on antibiotics. I went off BC last June and thought it was smart and she says nope. I don't know I just found it interesting.

started charting 2 months before trying. didn't really change anything else in my diet/routine otherwise. i was thinking that it would take several tries, but after the first month, we got pregnant.

@jetsa: That's so interesting! I actually came off BC before we were ready to TTC and charted, and it's definitely true looking at my charts that it took 3 months for my system to get BC out (which is the guideline I always heard). The first month, I had a very short cycle, the second month, I had a very long cycle (like two months long), and the third month, I settled back into the length of cycle that I've always had.

Nope. I went off birth control in December and we weren't opposed to getting pregnant but we didn't time things right in December and January, and I knew it. Then we had to put things on hold because I found out we were getting short-term disability at work, that wouldn't kick in until April (and obviously you couldn't have your maternity leave covered if you were pregnant when you purchased the coverage, i.e. if you give birth within the first 9 months of the coverage). Since my maternity leave would have been unpaid, we thought it would be stupid to not just wait a couple of months for the benefit. So we BD'ed when I knew I wasn't ovulating.
The month I got my BFP, I consciously timed our BD for best results. Aside from that and temping and using preseed, I did nothing different. I chugged coffee like always, I even took a Benadryl at some point. I don't drink or smoke anyway, so it's not like I had to stop that stuff.

@bpaig: Yea I was kind of shocked when she told me that because I thought I was doing everything right going off 6 months before we wanted to start testing the waters.
pomelo / 5331 posts
@jetsa: My cycles didn't normalize for a couple of months, so I can see the benefits of going off early if you are really eager to start in a specific month. But I think that most people who do this use condoms or some other method of barrier control, if they're not ready to get pregnant yet (or at least they should, right?!). I definitely wouldn't recommend charting to avoid right after going off BC either!

I got my BFP our second cycle trying... I went off BCP a year before (was getting migraines) and read TCOYF, so by the time we were TTC I knew my body really well. We had sex pretty much everyday (at least - it was our honeymoon!) from cd6 till I knew I ovulated (plus a few extra days)... some people say everyday is too much, but it worked for us! Good luck!

i started taking multivitamins a few months before and tracked my cycle a few times so i could estimate when ovulation might be. i cut way back on drinking during the TWW, but not before then.

We got married and went on our honeymoon and that was about it. Actually, that's not entirely true. I did start taking a pre-natal a few months before our wedding because we knew we might have kids within the first year.
I had already been charting to prevent, so I was pretty familiar with my cycles... but apparently it was enough to pull one layer of my multi-layered protection plan!
I was in club drink til it's pink

I stopped drinking (at all) for 2 months prior to starting. I went off the pill about 4 months before hand. I started working out more--began the couch to 5k program 6 weeks before conception. I started taking a prenatal about a month before TTC. From CD 1 to estimated ovulation I drank green tea to help with CM and then after I drank pomegranate juice to help strengthen uterine lining. Who knows what helped and what did nothing, though.
