Mamas of older LO's - what does your freezer stash look like?
My LO just turned a year and I only have one 4oz bag left! I don't supplement and since he was about 6mo old I usually pump enough for him the next day without much extra.
We are still battling MSPI so I think I am going to have to add a pumping session so that I can have a little more for back up!

My guy is 9 months and I've got maybe 20 oz? 9 of that is from last week and will be going to daycare tomorrow. I've never had a big stash though & my milk seems to sour quickly in the freezer so I can't keep it for months at a time

@mewtill: I had 16oz until this morning - I had to send 12 with him today wahhhhh My fault - I didn't pump at all on vacation!
How quickly does it go sour?

My LO is 10.5 weeks and I have 45 oz. I'm SAH for the first year so I don't need a freezer stash, but I like the security of having one. I've just recently started pumping more regularly (above and beyond the one pump I do each day so that DH can give DD a bottle every night) and I've been putting away about 12 oz/week.

I have 5 bags in my freezer. She's totally on whole milk and nursing in the PM/AM only. Not sure what to do with those bags...

@mediagirl: Same here, I don't know what to do with it but after treating that stuff like liquid gold for a year I can't bring myself to just throw it away.

Ugh, I have so much. Which, I know, sounds so obnoxious when I say it that way. But a few months ago, I started pumping 5 oz every day to build up an emergency stash (I'm a SAHM). I haven't used ANY of it, and I'm running out of room! I tried to donate, but I live in the middle of nowhere and no one wants to drive to come pick it up.
I want to stop pumping, but that's easier said than done!

I know you aren't interested in supplementing per say but we had a lot of success with Neocate Splash drink. It was nice to start teaching him that there is other milk. Since you are pumping and all you can also start providing other alternative milk such as almond, hemp, or rice.

@littlebittyhouse: its good for maybe a week? When it's in the fridge it's good for 4ish days rather than the typical 7.

@brownie: its not that i am not interested in supplementing - we just haven't ever had to (thank goodness for a nice supply and accomodating job). What is Neocate Splash? It would be nice to give him something other than mama milk at lunch in a cup and take the pressure off!
@mewtill: excess lipase? i am not an LC by any means but a friend of mine has it and similar to you cannot store her milk for long.

@littlebittyhouse: Neocate Splash in an amino acid based drink product. We bought directly from Neocate. It has perfectly portioned fat and calories. It is about $5 for each 8 oz box. But at over a year other milks can be used for the one drink and he will get all the fats etc he needs from your pumping.

@littlebittyhouse: I think you're right. My pediatrician said I could boil my milk before I froze it, but I prefer to just not have to freeze much at all

@littlebittyhouse: Don't be too jealous. She is mostly on formula, right now gets 4 oz a day. About a month ago we went from giving her most all of the milk I made to giving her 8 oz a day. At 6 months we switched to giving her 4 oz and freezing the rest. At 9 months she will get 2 oz a day. I've read that even getting 2 ounces a day benefits the baby. I EP and want to quit so badly, so this was our compromise.

DS is 9 months and I have a pretty big freezer stash. Mostly due to him refusing the bottle for awhile and nursing all night long. So for awhile I was freezing almost everything I was pumping at work. You've made it to a year though! And that's a huge accomplishment!
@mewtill: I have excess lipase too. The milk isn't actually bad, it just taste funny. My LO doesn't seem to mind the funny taste so I don't have to scold it. Have you ever tested to see if your LO is willing to drink it? Mine starts tasting funny quick too! Within 12 hours in the fridge it already tastes sour.

@mrskc: yes, he never refuses it! In fact, I never knew I had this issue until he started a bottle strike at 8 months & I tasted my milk and it was sour. I was surprised, but my husband - who usually fixes up the bottles - said its been like that before. I had no clue he was regularly tasting the milk! I'm glad to know its not actually "bad".

@mewtill: oh nice! Some babies have no issue with the sour taste so that's great yours doesn't! And I've kept mine in the freezer up to 3 months and DS still drinks it. I make sure to freeze it ASAP though. I don't let it sit in the fridge longer than 24 hours before freezing. Sometimes when he gets the older milk, we'll mix it with some fresh and he seems to like that.
