Hoping someone can ease my anxiety a bit. We just got a new refrigerator. It's the first time I've ever bought a new fridge and it seems to be cooling down a lot slower than my old one (which was 20+ years old) and warms up really fast when the door is open even for a second. We have a thermometer in there, and it cooled down to 37 degrees when we plugged it in after delivery, but then once we put groceries in, it jumped to 60 and stayed that way for a couple hours until we turned out the highest cooling setting, which cooled it down about 2 degrees per hour. I packed all the perishables into a cooler with ice packs overnight, concerned for spoilage, and this morning the fridge was 40 degrees. Just opening the door for less than a minute and putting the groceries back in made the temp rise to 42 and it just sat at that temp for the next hour, whereas my old fridge would have dropped back down pretty quick (and the new one is still on the highest cool setting). Is this kind of warming/slow cooling normal for new fridges? I'm really neurotic about food safety so these rises concern me from that perspective. My husband is assuring me that temperature needs to regulate when you put a bunch of warm stuff in a cold fridge, so I don't anticipate it going to 60 again, but it just feels like it warms up too fast and cools down too slowly. Would love some insights. Thanks!
