@nicolechris11212: I've been meaning to get back into yoga, that was always a good stress relief for me. Honestly, I think I need to get back into the gym in general.

@Crystal: You sound like me! I forced myself back to the gym last week and I'm so happy I did. I too want to get back into yoga. Even if it's just once a week. This week I am not able to make any of the yoga classes at my gym but maybe I'll try for next week. Can we motivate each other to do ONE yoga class this week or next week???

I'm very excited and would like to share that I lost 1.6 lbs this week! 8.4 lbs to go for my 10 lb weight loss goal!
My hard work is paying off! It's really in your mindset. I feel like the past few months (maybe even more than a few) I "thought" I had control over my life but I really didn't. I realized I need to take care of ME. And I wasn't. And the idiot in me last summer thought that you can't diet while ttc and that is so untrue. My mom told me that when she had her children you do anything and everything for them and your entire life revolves around that; which is wonderful, but we can't forget about taking care of ourselves as well. Otherwise, we are going to gain weight and be miserable and how can we be the best mommies if we are miserable? So I decided that I need to start getting in that mindset of "I will do anything for my babies" which I know I will but that starts before they are even here. Okay sorry for rambling.
I'm just so happy I lost some weight. I was on the scale (obsessing) all week and the scale really hasn't moved until yesterday/today. It's so nice to see the numbers going down!
This week I:
-Tracked everything that went in my mouth on MyFitnessPal (whether I went over my calories or not)
-I am making myself go to the gym 3 solid days a week no if, ands, or buts! And if I go an extra day thats bonus (and I can eat a little more and not feel as guilty)
-I am not eating processed foods for the most part, however I am trying not to deprive myself either (this week alone I had 7 birthdays in my family!! 7!!) So there was a LOT of cake and ice-cream this week. The first birthday I didn't have any (that was like day one or two and was feeling yucky) but the past few I put it in my app, accounted for it and had some and didn't regret it!
-Staying positive and loving life at the moment.

@nicolechris11212 You are AMAZING girl!! Congrats on meeting your goal for the week and losing some weight!! Its true that crash dieting during TTC probably isnt great but the good thing is that eating healthy is actually GOOD for TTC! Seriously, go you.
As for me I am doing great! Going for a massage after work today for stress relief and then planning on doing some yoga tonight as well. As for my food intake - I'm supposed to cut out dairy and sugar for now, dairy is pretty easy to cut out but I feel like there is loads of hidden sugar in every label I look at! Ahh well, can't win them all!
How are the rest of you ladies doing? Here is my question for you all: What do you feel is a big obstacle for you to getting healthy/fit, and what are you doing to overcome it?
For me I find that work has a big effect - on days when I have a ton of work and I stay late or feel stressed I find it really hard to get motivated to work out or prepare a healthy meal. Since last week I have been easing up a bit and trying to delegate or turn down excess work that I would have previously just taken on. I find I am feeling less stressed since I started doing that, which is helping a lot!!

@nicolechris11212: congrats on your progress! Re: your relaxation question... I have been going to a yoga class over the past year and I have definitely noticed an improvement in anxiety and stress. I feel like I can better handle stressful situations through breathing and self talk. And I love taking the time for me during the week!
@Annette: honestly a lack of motivation at the moment I was working out pretty regularly February through June and saw very little impact. I know it means I wasn't doing to best work outs and need to tweak my eating habits, but it's left me with a feeling of what's the point.
I feel like I have been doing a better job at portion control and not eating more just because it's there.

I love this thread....I definitely need to drop some weight, but TTC has consumed me and I've gained about 20 pounds so far this year! No excuses anymore!! I'm lacking motivation because I don't really have any support. OH isn't into working out too much, though he should be!
TTC Status: Currently ttc. CD1 today in cycle #9!
Fitness Goal: I would love to drop at least 50lbs. I'm tall so my frame can handle a little more meat, but it's gotten out of hand.
What steps are you taking?: Not doing too much as I have a horrid commute to work every day so a serious lack of time and energy. I swim laps every weekend (at least two days) with my Mom, and maybe I'll do an elliptical workout during the week at home. A couple weeks ago I decided to go partial vegan (just not eating cheese, eggs and meat). I try and eat healthy, and I'm usually fine during the week, but at night and on the weekends I binge.
Tell us something funny about yourself: I'm a total klutz....not sure if that's "haha" funny, but my OH can't believe how many times a person can trip over themselves!

@Annette: Thanks girl! It's not easy but I know deep down inside this is the answer for my ttc journey. I'm so glad you are doing great!! And OMG sugar is in everything!! Prob more hidden than not! Sucks... And that's great that you are delegating! It must feel really good!
I feel that my biggest obstacle is being pressured to eat something by someone (like a coworker wanting you to eat her oh so delicious looking cupcakes she brought in for everyone or MIL wanting to make you an alcoholic beverage with baileys and all sorts of high calorie and fat deliciousness and when you say no thanks you wonder if she's wondering why you aren't having alcohol!) when I know it'll put me over my calories for the day and then I picture the scale going way up haha. It makes me feel like a loss of control but I have to remember a two letter word, no. I have to remind myself who is in control! That's me!
@As Time Goes By: Thank you!! Yoga is great and self talk is amazing haha. I tell myself everyday "I can do this". And "me" time is sooo important! Good for you!!
@Starfish: Welcome!!! I'm so happy you are here! I completely hear you with ttc has consuming your life. I gained 15 lbs in a year with the same mindset and that is so bad lol. I've been unhappy with myself lately and I said enough is enough. We will support you here! I'm rooting you on! I know you can do this!! I recently pinned on Pinterest different elliptical workouts to keep it interesting and it seems to help! Good luck with it! And nights and weekends are my weakness! I always say "I'm good with breakfast and lunch but come dinner forget about it!" It's so hard. And your something funny is funny

@nicolechris11212: Thanks!! I think most of my problems stems from the fact that I'm a bored eater! And I'm bored all the time at work (nothing much i can do about that)!!
i'm not sure how to fix bored eating. I tried tracking calories, but that didn't really work for me. I'm too scared to get on the scale right now, so I don't really have an accurate weight to start at, but I can probably make a good guess based on what the scale said a few weeks ago and how my clothes are fitting!

This is great! I definitely need some support with my get healthy goals
TTC STATUS: Waiting; hopefully we will start TTC soon
Fitness Goals: Lose 20-25 lbs; I currently keep gaining and losing the same 5
What steps are you taking?: I've joined weight watchers (but - confession - don't always run a good program) and I have also been trying to eat more whole foods. I am also trying to get into a regular yoga routine (which I fell out of in the spring) and have started a couch to 5k program and generally aiming for 10,00 steps a day (i have a fitbit tracker).
Tell us something funny about yourself: DH and I have a dog that we have realized we treat like a person; including talking to her as if she was a baby...and we have no plans to stop doing that
apricot / 278 posts
@Starfish: It took me a while to get on the scale. I tried to not think about it as if it would just go away. But it didn't and yup, my clothes weren't fitting like they usually do and finally I got the courage to get up on that scale (first thing in the morning…butt naked…) and I had to own it. Whatever the number said that's what it was and there was nothing I could have done about it right then. I felt like I had to be accountable for my weight and the things I was eating. I'm so glad I did because I now I have something to work off of (and watching the numbers go down feels amazing). For bored eating, I find that if there is something staring at me I will eat it (if it's edible that is lol) so I bring my lunch and bring healthy snacks. What kind of snacks are you eating? Can you replace the current snacks for healthier choices but still make it appealing to eat? Let me know if I can help!
@MrsPastryLady: Yay! Welcome!! Good luck with your healthy-ttc journey! We will definitely be rooting you on! What is your dog's name? That's pretty funny It sounds like you guys want a baby!
olive / 60 posts
@nicolechris11212: you've already helped loads!! So thank you!
I do pack my lunch and I try and bring enough snacks. today I had 2 tortilla's with hummus, some multigrain chips (from costco) and some sugar snap peas for a snack. But that wasn't enough and my coworker has Hersey kisses on her desk....so I went for those
Since I just started a particularly painful AF I don't want to get on the scale just yet. But I promise I will next Monday! That way I have a number to go off of. Maybe it'll motivate me too.
apricot / 278 posts
@Starfish: Today is CD 1 for you. Today, just veg and treat yourself to something nice. I got on the scale on towards the end of AF. I'm glad I did because it motivated me to just get started with losing 10 lbs. I went to the gym right through AF and I was kicking and screaming the entire time because my uterus was telling me not to but I told her to be quiet, ignored her, and went and my cramps were tremendously less and I felt really good. First time in a long time that I didn't need my heating pad! Since you have a painful AF this cycle…rest and hang in there for now. When you are ready to get on that scale you will. If Monday is the day, then Monday is the day! I'm rooting for you from here!
Your lunch sounds good! (I love those multigrain chips from Costco!) What if you get some nuts? Almonds or cashews are great in protein and it will take away those hunger pains. Or even chocolate covered almonds (if you like those!) When I get home from the gym I'm typically STARVING and need SOMETHING. I'll have a small handful of the dark chocolate covered almonds and it just calms me down a bit before dinner! Or even a low-fat cheese stick? I've had some cashews and a cheese stick and I pretend it's cheese and crackers, haha.
olive / 60 posts
@nicolechris11212: Those are all really good ideas. I need to stop at the store after work, I think I'll pick up some nuts. Love the idea of eating chocolate covered nuts....for some reason when I'm hungry I really want chocolate! Haha
Maybe having it around will make me eat it slowly!
apricot / 278 posts
@Starfish: I always want chocolate. It's a weakness in my life, haha. Check the calories on them and maybe space it out? Nuts in general are higher in calories but they are great in protein so they will fill you longer. If I have them as a treat I eat them very slowly and savor them haha. They do say we eat our foods way too fast and we should chew 20 times before swallowing. Sounds a but ridiculous but it does make you want to eat slower, lol. GL!!!

@nicolechris11212: that's great, congrats!!
@MrsPastryLady: I'm also a WWers member, and very rarely follow the program. I am working to get back on track and stay motivated with it, but it can be hard!
@Starfish: have you tried brownie brittle? It's pretty good and a small piece goes a long way, it's pretty rich. And not too bad on calories.
I have gone to the gym 2 days in a row now! ::pats self on back::

@nicolechris11212: I've neglected this thread! I will catch up tomorrow. I'm going to bed now at 10pm. That's great for me! No red wine. And I kicked ass in a spin class tonight. If I can lose 5 pounds soon, I will get myself a juice cleanse. I know that's not a cure all and the weight comes back on, but I love the cleanses for motivation and just to feel good in general.

@nicolechris11212: As for relaxing and destressing, I think that something as simple as walking outside is the best remedy. Even a little walk after dinner can do a world of good. Try it!

@nicolechris11212: Sounds like you're doing great.
I got derailed by the holiday weekend and some major changes at work. Today I walked straight past that gym I just joined to have lunch with a friend. A friend that works at an ice cream company. And I did not pass up the milkshake she made me.
I tried to get back on track after work by walking LO to the playground after daycare pick up. She's 16 months and way too small for the equipment so it was lots of lifting and squats. I need to start marching around the house because I still have about 300 steps to go for today.

@nicolechris11212 her name is coco. DH doesn't think that he's ready quite yet, but he's coming around
@crystal glad to hear there's another WW member here! I'm happy to help you stay on track however I can. I have a mental block around tracking, but am trying to be better about that.
@mrsmcd agreed on the walk after dinner, especially now that it's summer. it can be such a nice end to the day.

@nicolechris11212: @Crystal: I picked up some of those Fiber One 90 cal brownies last night. Brought the box to work so if I have the NEED to snack I can eat one of those and that will also curb my chocolate craving!!
Going to try and get on my elliptical tonight! Would you ladies say a HIIT workout is best? Or do you believe a 45 min steady pace is better? There are so many conflicting statements on those I'm never really sure what is better for you!
cherry / 224 posts
@starfish I'd say whatever keeps you the most interested in doing it.
grapefruit / 4028 posts
@Starfish: do whatever you feel capable of! Any workout is better than no workout, and until you are super in shape I'm not sure that it matters.
apricot / 278 posts
@Starfish: That's great!! And for the elliptical...do whatever feels best. I really just started last week and I was determined to complete 30 minutes. I did 10 mins forward, 5 backward twice and sometimes I just change it up to keep it interesting. I'm starting slow...no added resistance just moving! My goal is to hit 3 miles in 30 minutes. I'm close but not quite there but trying! I think the most important thing is that you're doing it! Go you!

@nicolechris11212: So I noticed you mentioned your weight loss above! Every pound loss is an accomplishment in and of itself. Great job, lady! Keep it up! Tracking food is definitely a great thing to do. I lose weight quick when I count my calories as I start to be totally ashamed of myself. Maybe I will look into the fitness pal app.
@Annette: I hope your massage was great. My biggest obstacle to weight loss is my mindless bored eating.
@As Time Goes By: I also have a problem with portion control. Sucks. I just love food!
@Starfish: Swimming laps is awesome! I swam all through high school and for years before that. I was in awesome shape. I hope my next house has room for a lap pool. Do you have an elliptical machine at your house?!? Umm.. that would be awesome to have. And which POAS thread are you active on? I haven't seen you before. Sorry if I missed you!
@MrsPastryLady: I've done weight watchers before and it worked! I'm just too... ummm... maybe lazy to start it again. Good luck, lady!
@Crystal: Good for you at the gym! Hey - let's meet up soon! We can meet half way.
@Corduroy: I'd be a blimp if a friend worked at an ice cream factory. I used to work at a place on the pier called Ruby's Diner and when I started, I was the "fountain girl", meaning I made shakes. I brought shakes home for me and DH (then boyfriend) after every shift. Ugh. Luckily I was young then and weight didn't stay on me. Now.... different story. Sucks.

@Crystal: @nicolechris11212: You are right. I'll just get on the elliptical tonight and watch some TV....maybe I'll stay on for an hour then! HAha

@MrsMcD: Thanks girl! You are so right...every pound counts! I too did WW a few years ago and it worked! Were you on a swim team in HS? I swam in HS and was in awesome shape and at a healthy weight. I blame college for my fat eating habits! And myfitnesspal is great and free! I def recommend it!!
GOLD / pomegranate / 3938 posts
@nicolechris11212: Yes, I was on the swim and waterpolo teams in high school. It was amazing. I blame my weight gain on being 31 and being a lawyer who sits most all the day and eats for stress, boredom and because I just like to. Ugh..
olive / 60 posts
@nicolechris11212: Thanks you
@MrsMcD: I have the same problem...except not a lawyer, but I do sit on my ass all day and bored/stress eat. It's a bad habit!!
Hard to break - but we can do it!

I went to spin class last where I allegedly burned 661 calories in 45 minutes. (umm... so not in any way accurate but I like it nonetheless) And I met my sister for a walk this morning! We live amongst hills so I like to think that a few miles walk is more than just a walk when hills are involved. If I'm out moving, then I'm not sitting and eating.

@Starfish: Please tell me... is your elliptical at your house??? I'm dying of jealousy right now.
olive / 60 posts
@MRSMCD: Yes!! It's moved around from the living room to the bedroom! Haha
I just don't have time for the gym, and I get bored very fast with DVD's and running outside (mostly because I hate running) so I decided to buy one.
It's not fancy, it's just a very basic machine from Walmart....I'm actually super impressed with it. It was only $200, shipped the next day, was fairly easy to put together (thanks, Dad!) and serves it's purpose...I actually find it more work than the ones you use at the gym.
I just need to get on it more!

TTC STATUS: TTC, cycle 17 *sigh*
Fitness Goals: short term is to lose 5 pounds, long term is to lose 10.
What steps are you taking?: cleaning up my eating is my main priority. We went on vacation and completely indulged. We over indulged the weeks leading up to vacation too DH is onboard too so it's been really helpful to change our lifestyles together towards the positive again.
I'm also working out 4-5 times a week minimum.
Tell us something funny about yourself: when we went on vacation we went to a spring fed pool that was FREEZING. It was so cold that I psyched myself out and was breathing so heavily that I got dizzy! I eventually toughed it out and got all the way in but didn't stay in for long.

Jumping in...
TTC STATUS: forever. Seriously- this is cycle 16, month 14. I am trying to have a more NTNP attitude this month.
Fitness Goals: I want to be in better shape, but right now stress reduction is the bigger goal. I think that is what is keeping me from my BFP.
What steps are you taking?: Trying to exercise most days. I have a month of unlimited hot yoga, and I keep missing it. But I did run today. I am trying to meditate more, read the bible, pray, and be kinder to myself. I also started acupuncture.
Tell us something funny about yourself: I love trash TV- Bachelorette, MTV the Challenge, Big Brother, Survivor.
