We are in the market for a new couch. We have a 60 lb lab who chills on the couch all day. The lady at the furniture store advised us to get real leather or microfiber because it is the most durable. I am leaning toward the leather because it wot aquire that doggy smell.
The real leather (not bonded or "leather look" seems like it would withstand her toenails just fine. The lady said it would ..... Do you have leather furniture ? How does it hold up with your pets ?

We also have a 60lb lab who loves our couch... It's a leather sectional... Not going to lie, there are a few scratch marks on it from her nails but no punctures. We usually throw down a blanket where she normally hangs and she will lay on it...
Good call on avoiding microfiber - it attracts animal fur like crazy! And I hate when it gets rubbed the wrong way and looks wet/stained.

We have a 65lb dog, and our leather couch holds up fine with him on and off of it. We were also told leather or microfibre, but splurged for leather as we figured the mf would hold his hair, and it's nice to just wipe off the leather and definitely doesn't hold any stink. Even when he's rough on it, we see his claw skid marks, but they fade out and we haven't had any issues....yet!

Oh, and leather is super easy to wipe down if it gets dirty (yesterday our pup wiped her salt-covered paws on the couch and it came right off with a damp cloth!)

We have two Labradors and don't have a leather couch. The couch we have held up just fine - we do use a blanket to cover where they lay down on it.

I think microfiber would hold the fur like crazy! That would drive me nuts.
We have a leather couch and it has been completely fine with my dog, but he is only 26 pounds and isn't "allowed" on the couch (ie he only goes on it when we aren't home!). He doesn't really like laying on the bare leather anyway, he really only seems to jump up when we leave a blanket on it. So possibly, your dog might spend a little less time on the leather anyway. I really like that the fur just wipes right off super easy. My parents have cloth couch and a shedding dog and every time you sit on the couch, you have fur all over your pants and back of your sweater.

@Foodnerd81: you know I was thinking she may not want to lay on leather as much !!! She's a picky pup !
