My dad and best friend has had gallbladder surgery. My dad, who is a doctor, was up after surgery as soon as they would let him. He knew walking around would help relieve the gas that builds up during the anethesia. My friend didn't do this and was in pain for about a week. She said it was worse than the infection she got after her csection. The actual surgery stuff didn't hurt her, it was the gas around her shoulders. That is what was so painful for her.

You don't want to hear my story... if your courious i posted about it in December. I was healing well the first two days until I had complications. I had bile that leaked on my liver & it split my liver open. It is rare & about a 1% chance that it will happen. After 2 ER visits and several scans & tons of drugs that didnt work they found the leak & repaired the damages. It took me 3 weeks to recover from my surgeries.

I had it out on a Friday & until I had my complications (Sunday night) I was hopeful that I would be back at work by Tuesday. Infact I had just txt my boss to tell her that when my liver split open. We don't have kids but I have a husband who suffers from chronic pain. I was doing most things for myself right away.

ETA: don't just lay around. Make yourself a sandwich, get your own drinks, etc it will help with the gas. Even a walk up and down the block is recommended if you can.

I have not had my gall bladder out but I recently had a lap. The gas up in my shoulders and chest was more painful than the actual surgery. Once I stopped throwing up from the anesthesia and felt up to it, I paced around the downstairs of my house. It was slow pacing but moving around really helped with the gas pain like another poster mentioned.

I had mine out about 7 years ago, right before Christmas (ugh). I honestly think that the pain medicine that they gave me made me feel worse. I ended up snapping them in half and taking them with some Motrin, which made me feel a lot better.
