Getting off B.C.P.

So today is the day. My first day off birth control.

DH and I are not actively TTC, but we are officially NTNTC.

Actually, we need to wait out a month as DH is getting off some meds that aren't safe for baby-making; and I have had a lot of trouble adjusting regular cycles to the current BCP I'm on, (I've had 4 periods in the last 2.5 months). So here I am, no longer on the pill. I've heard both ends of the story. Some friends have told me that I need to get off the pill a few months before so I can adjust cycles and others have told me that I'll be able to get pregnant right away.

What are your experiences?

I got pregnant while I was still on B.C. I had skipped a couple of days though.. oops! Best mistake ever
Good luck NTNTC! My LO's 7 months old, I'm still nursing 90% of the time and my hubs and I are NTNTC.

I got off the pill in the month of June (last year) but used condoms for 3 months. My period ended up coming anywhere between 29-35 days. We started TTC in September, got pregnant in October.

I went off bc and just paid attention to when my normal fertile window was (by temping). That worked for a few months before we started actively ttc. I never had a problem with cycles being off - I stayed pretty regular with 27-28 day cycles even after going off bc.

I went off the pill in August and my doc told me to wait at least one month, preferably three before TTC. I didn't exactly listen...we started TTC that first month but nothing happened. We're on month 3 now and we'll find out (hopefully) in 6 days.

I went off the pill in June and had a 43 day cycle, a 37 day cycle and finally a 27 day cycle, but I'm still not sure I'm ovulating. If I ovulated last cycle it would have been while we were on vacation and I wasn't very strict with temping and my OPKs. I'm currently on cycle day 6, so we'll see how this month goes : )

I definitely think it's different for everyone. There are people who get pregnant the cycle after they stop taking BC. Hopefully it won't take long for yours to be regular!

I stopped taking BC in August, hubby and I started actively trying right away. Doc said it would take me a coulpe of months for my body to adjust, I started with an OPK this cycle, I'm 5 days PO now, fingers crossed

Trying not to stress about it (which is my general nature), just trying to enjoy the process.

I stopped BC after being on it for 10 years, and got pregnant my 2nd cycle off of it. I figured it would take awhile for my body to regulate, but apparently that's not always the case!

Good luck!! I stopped BC in January and have had super regular 28-day cycles since then. We started temping and using OPKs over the past couple of months and are hoping for good news this cycle. I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

I was on BCP for 10 years. I decided to go off them in 2007. I think my first cycle post BCP was 72ish days, then it tapered off to 33 days. I charted for three years before TTCing.

I was on the pill for 10 plus years. Went off in March and started TTC in June. I've had regular periods but was ovulating early (day 8 or 9). I had my annual last week and my NM said she thinks it may take time to get back to normal. I O'd around day 13 this month (6th cycle TTC). Wish I had gotten off the pill earlier.

Goodluck!

I got off BCP dec '10 and my cycles regulated right away to about 26-27 days. We started TTc May '11 and just got our bfp this month (cycle 6). I would recommend charting & opk, it totally helped me pinpoint my O date.

I'm not yet off the pill, but given that we'd like to start TTC early next year, I'm trying to decide when it makes sense to go off, and I'm not sure yet.

@alongfarview, I was on the same bc pill for the past few years and then switched a few months ago due to side effects with my old pill. The new pill affected me even worse. I got 4 periods in the last 2-3 months.

After my last, unexpected period; I decided to go off the pill so that my body adjusts and has normal cycles before we actively TTC. This is the end of my first week off the pill in ten years, I can tell there is a difference (whether it's good or bad, i haven't figured it out yet!)
