I'm planning DD2's 1st birthday party and trying to decide if I should do gift bags. It's just my nieces and nephews going to be there, so I can make sure to get stuff that is actually appreciated, but i just don't know if it's worth it. I think i'm having some guilt because DD1's first birthday party was a big hoopla and we are doing a small family one for DD2.

Yay! I think it's fun for the kids.
I gave out straw cups (target dollar spot!), DIY whale activity book + crayons, and age appropriate flash cards for DD2's first birthday.

I think its fun but not necessary. A simple balloon is often most enjoyed!

Something small for the kiddos might be fun!

I did them for her 1st but not the 2nd. The kids didn't care, they are all older (mostly 7-9) anyway. This year I will do for her friend party but again not for the family party.

I always do giftbags because I think kids love them, even if they're really small things. It's that fun element of getting to open a "surprise"!

I'll be the odd man out and say nay. I get that my kid loves them but he loves them for about a minute and then moves on. I end up throwing the majority of the items out b/c they're usually crap. The best one we've gotten has been a simple book. Perfect. Or something edible but I am very anti gift bag.

I think this falls into the category of stuff you really should only do if you, as the host, are into it and find it fun. If you find it to be another thing to stress over, then just forget it, and it's no big deal.

I don't do "gift bags" because most of the time it's just candy or junk that will break in 10 min. I do try to have something for the kids to do (rent a bouncy house) or give them something in the theme of the party, like superhero capes/mask for a superhero party or fairy wings/tutu/tiara for a fairy party.

Nay! I'd rather have a take home favor do double duty or triple duty. Something that adds to the decor + something that can be used during the party + something that can be taken home.

I like them if they're the right sort of things. We've gotten actual board books, stickers, crayons, and band-aids, and those have been appreciated. Weird little cheap toys and candies are a nay.
