DH has a mandatory 30 days off work in August and my mom was wanting to go on vacation with us. We're thinking about Pensacola, FL but just exploring all our options. My mom also mentioned Disney World. Any ideas in the eastern US welcome! It'll be my mom, DH, me, and two kids, ages 4 years and 10 months.

@BelugaBean: If you do more of a central Fl you can still do the beach and the theme parks. Pensacola to Disney is quite a drive (6-7 hours I think).

There are great places on the gulf side near St. Augustine or even further south by Sanibel if you want calm beach water.

@T.H.O.U.: We would do either Pensacola or Disney World! We're leaning away from Disney World right now because of price but calm waters would definitely be preferred at the beach.

Sounds like a roadtrip! I love history, so Savannah and Charleston would be on my short list before heading to relaxation Amelia Island and fun Disney World.

What kind of budget / length of travel / interests?
I don't know that I would want to go anywhere in FL in August personally! Where do you live and where might you like to travel? Flying or just driving?

How about the Virginia Beach/Rehoboth area? You could do day trips to DC.

Pensacola is wonderful! We lived there for 3 years and nearby Gulf Shores, AL and Destin, FL are beautiful as well. If you want a beach trip, the Gulf is the way to go. They are the most beautiful beaches

@BelugaBean: In August FL will be miserable - how about Cape Cod - weather will be gorgeous - nice calm ocean - you can go to Martha's Vineyard or drive to Boston too depending on how much time you have

Our family enjoys quieter beach vacations so we like smaller NC and SC beach towns. Hilton Head is also nice and very family oriented.

@NavyRN2012: They are! We actually stayed in the place we're looking at last June and loved it! I have some family down there and it's always beautiful.
@yoursilverlining: Nothing too much. Just driving and aiming for $1500-2000 for a week's worth of accommodations at the absolute most.
