Yea, I would just keep them and not stir the pot.

I would just not put them out. If she asks about them, offer to return them since they aren't kid friendly!

I would ask if she wants them back expressing your thanks for them but you have others now if not just keep them!

I think returning gifts to the giver is always asking for trouble. I would keep them, and if she asks why specific ornaments are not out; just explain then.

I would tell her you aren't using these ornaments because they aren't kid friendly. Then I'd ask if she would like them back and tell her if not then you are donating/giving them away.

Then at least she has the option to take them back and you aren't stuck with them. I don't see the point in hanging onto them if you aren't going to use them.

I would just keep them in storage if possible. It avoids hurt feelings and you never know if the day will come when the ornaments will have more sentimental meaning to your family.

How I am reading your post is that you "inherited" it as in she is just getting rid of it or had an extra set so wanted to pass it to you right? If she really likes that design and can use it, I don't think it would be rude to let her use it but I guess it would depend on how you say it?

Or maybe exchange it at the store where she purchased it for something you like better. If no receipt available, get it a store credit perhaps?

I agree with the basic sentiment of others, if it was an actual gift I would not give them back but if it was just hand me downs or cast offs I would offer to give them back to her. Maybe phrase it like you were super thankful she helped you get your own collection started and maybe now she wants them back so she can enjoy them again or to help someone else until they get a collection.

I completely changed the look and theme of my tree after having kids. Now that I have these new ornaments that are more kid friendly, I may never go back to my beautiful silvery tree look or at least not until my kids are no longer kids. I don't think it is a big deal to not use the ornaments and while you can tell her you may use them again one day, you may not once you have another collection that you will likely continue to build. If space is an issue, you could always see if she wants them back due to the fact that you can't use them for some years and you don't have sPace for them.
