Nope! Completely the opposite. We discussed it, he said he was happy to start trying now (told me off for thinking he would be freaked out) and the topic was dropped. The following day, I asked him if he was excited that we were going to start trying and he replied, wearily, "I just don't know what you want me to say". I said "I want you to be excited, it's a big decision!". To which he replied "it's not like you're pregnant yet, is it?"

Big, fat sigh.

He's taking his vitamins as requested - and has started decorating the house (I like to think that's his way of preparing!) but discussing our hopes and dreams for our child's future or openly showing excitement - no chance!

@Hanzabelle: my husband was like this. I just did my best to share statistics with him (like that healthy couples usually have only a 20% chance of getting pregnant each month) to set his expectatations. He was still so sure it would happen on the first try. In our case he was right (we ended up miscarrying but then got pregnant on the first try again). So he still thinks getting pregnant is super easy.

@Hanzabelle: I agree with Mamamoose. Just share some stats. The one about "you can do everythinf perfectly right and there is still only a 20% chance of conceiving" is a good one. Having said that, my hubs was like that too, and we're 8 cycles in and he's not too crushed at all.

We are the opposite... I keep thinking: we are both healthy and relatively young (28 and 29), we are BDing like teenagers, why shouldn't it work?

DH is a medical resident and is much more matter-of-fact... He knows the statistics and so he hasn't been as anxious as I have been about everything. I think if we go 6months with no BFP, he will wonder what's going on.

Mine is pretty much convinced that if he touches me while I'm "unprotected" I'll get pregnant right away. He's not as excited and enthusiastic about it as yours though, he's more cautious and anxious about the potential life changes that are about to come, but I wish he'd be more into it like yours for sure, sometimes I feel pretty alone in my excitement, which is why I frequent this board so often!

That said, this is our first cycle trying, and of course he's completely convinced that "did it". I'm not feeling it at all. It's a guy thing, they don't like to think their sperm would ever fail.

@Hanzabelle: My husband and my family are behaving like this. My mom keeps telling me that we are all so fertile. Well that is great mom, but I am still not pregnant lol.

I have PCOS and don't ovulate on my own, and DH still doesn't get that lol. I should probably have a sex ed/womens reproductive cycle class with him.

@MamaMoose: my husband's thought process was exactly the same as your husband's. No matter what I said or did, he was convinced it would happen.

@anonysquire: I teach high school English and I take my Year 9s (12-13 year olds) to the library every Thursday. They've just discovered the anatomy books so we've been having delightful conversations about placentas and episiotomies lately - I figure that if I don't answer those questions, who will? At least they are learning, right?
