I was at the store with my 2.5 year old son today and felt like it was a marathon of crazy. I know everyone manages to figure it out with 2 or more but I'm just curious how those of you with 2+ handle the grocery!

@Applesandbananas: it's not bad at all! They actually entertain each other.

Will he sit in the cart still? Right now I either walk with the big stroller and carry a basket and fill the under the stroller basket, while the 2 year old sits in the stroller, or I put her in the front of the shopping cart. I never let her walk unless we are just getting like 2 things. I *think* when the baby is born we will do something similar but I will wear the baby in a carrier, or put the whole infant seat inside the shopping cart, or have them in the double stroller and only buy what will fit underneath? Once they are both bigger.... Grocery delivery??? Just bring the baby while the toddler is in preschool?

It's crazy with my two. My 3yo would rather sit in the cart but my 11 month old is sitting up there so the 3yo is a little crazy. Sometimes I wear the baby put the big kid in the cart and that's a little more manageable.

I plan to start doing fresh direct or baby wearing the infant while my older kid walks. Haven't tried it yet though!

Just got back from the store with my 3 yo and 3 mo! I wear the baby and big sister rides in the cart. The baby loves being worn as long as we are moving so we just need sister to pick things out without taking too long. It was harder at first but we are getting the hang of it.
I do try to go with just one but that was not an option this weekend.

We try to avoid this by having both DH and me do the shopping runs, or just me and baby while DS is in day care. But if I have to take both kids shopping, DS helps pick out the produce and carries a small bag. And the whole time I'm on high alert in case one of them decides to melt down. So stressful!

I prefer to just take 1 of them, but do take both. If it's a small trip, DS1 (3.5) will sit in the big part of the basket and the baby (10m) in the seat. If we are at a grocery store that has a double carriage I use that. When the baby was too little for the seat, I wore him in the bjorn or ergo. It's a sweaty affair!

If I have them all:
DD is 5, she walks
DS#1 is 3, he walks
DS#2 is 22 months he rides
Before DS#1 was big enough to walk, I would wear DS#2 and DS#1 would ride.
Expecting DS#3 in December, and then I'll wear the baby, toddler in the cart, and big guys walking.
I actually like grocery shopping with my kids The big guys understand expectations and rules, so it makes it very easy.

The baby is no problem at all. My toddler is another matter, but if I'm alone I have the oldest in the stroller, wear the baby and use his bassinet as a basket. I try give the toddler jobs to do, like find me x vegetable etc. the worst bit is the chocolates the have by the till, she is very sneaky at grabbing at them on the way through,

It's not awful. I do grocery pickup a lot because DD2s still naps a lot and I don't like spending her entire awake time shopping.

Haha we just did TJ. The kids each get a cart and follow me around. I didn't need much today, so I let them do all the work.
Mine are a little older though. 4.5 and almost 3.

Firstly, I'm so so blessed in that my children don't really cry at the store. They just bebop along and are mostly okay.
Secondly, I just wear baby sister and let my 2 year old use her paci if she asks (which is embarrassing but she's happy so whatever, whoever is looking and judging can suck it ). I've also started going twice a week instead of once because the trips are shorter. And I go.to the closet store even though it's not my preferred place to shop. I have always hated grocery shopping. It puts me in a horrendous mood. That being said, it's really not too bad bringing them along. I do enjoy going without them though!

I get one of those car carts with room for two and they both ride. I bring snacks and a carrier in the diaper bag in case things get sketchy. They sometimes bring a book each. It's not that bad, just slow! Oh, I also bribe them with a visit to the lobster tank at the end, which they love.

I wear the youngest and the older one goes in the cart. They do really well grocery shopping, probably because they always come with me.

We just don't go, and starve.
Kidding...but I DREAD shopping with them so I make sure I can go when DH is around (rare) or my mom wants to tag along. If I do have to take them I plan very carefully and pretty much run through the store.

I actually like taking my girls grocery shopping! When DD2 was an infant, I'd wear her and put DD1 in the trolley. Now that they're older, DD1 (3 yrs) either walks or sits in the main part of the trolley, and DD2 (20 months) sits in the proper seat of the trolley. They're usually really fun to take around but the hard part is when it comes time to check out - DD1 loves putting our groceries on the conveyor, whilst DD2 tries to take everything off! We also bag our own groceries (the norm here in the UK), so trying to bag everything up and keep two LOs from demolishing everything whilst I do so is usually the worst part! But other than that, it's a piece of cake....most of the time!

My toddlers walk and LO 3's seat goes inside the big part of the cart. I don't have runners.

For a while we changed grocery stores based on availability of carts with two seats + steering wheels!

This is totally one of those things that is scarier before you have two and actually isn't that difficult once you're doing it. Promise!

I wear one in a carrier and one rides in the cart. Sometimes I wear both depending on how much I need to buy.

I wear the baby and the toddler sits in the cart. I sometimes load up Daniel Tiger on the iPad for the toddler so she is distracted and won't whine/ask to buy junk/try to get out.

when the baby was tiny I wore her and my son went in the cart. Now that she can sit up, she sits in the cart, he drives the car in front, and we stop at the deli for a cheese slice and the bakery for a cookie. Plus I bring snacks.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
In the beginning the baby was in the carrier a lot. Now my older will sit in the cart since her sister is sitting in it. When we go to a store that doesn't have dual seats it's frustrating because then we each have to push a cart. If it's just me then I let her ride in the front....

@dagret: we never, ever leave the house without snacks. Ever. I will literally tell my DH to turn around if I forgot. Lol and he does because it's a lifesaver!

When DD was younger, I wore her in the carrier and DS rode in the cart. Now DS rides in the big part of the cart and DD in the front. My son is usually fine in store but DD now gets antsy. I don't like to take them shopping. I can't focus on what I need because one of them is always wanting something. lol

@dagret: @regberadaisy: yes we cannot survive with out snacks! lol never leave the house with out them.

@coopsmama: I know toooooons of people have done it before me and that I'll figure it out, but the idea of it is so terrifying!!

I wear T. E gets the free store cookie while sitting in the cart. And my grocery list is mapped out by section so I can get through quickly!!! Car carts are also the best thing ever

I've never really had a problem with grocery store trips. My older LO was right around 3 though when LO2 was born, so he would just walk along while I pushed the younger one in the stroller.

In the UK, we have trolleys (carts) with double child seats and ones with a toddler seat and a baby seat.

Depends where we're shopping (with a 3 year old and 9 month old)
Sams club (or other large double carts- both in the cart sitting side by side
Shop Rite- they have carts where it is a cart with a "car" in front so DD1 drives the "car" and DD2 sits in the cart
Other stores- DD1 in the cart and DD2 in the Ergo
I never put DD1 in the big part of the cart because that's just asking for her to stand up and get in trouble!
persimmon / 1363 posts
My 6 mo old is in the carrier, my 2 yo is all over the place. The hard part is shopping with a toddler!
pineapple / 12234 posts
Taking just my 2 LO's was never bad for me...so I thought 3 wouldn't be a big deal. I was wrong. Now that have 3, I avoid going to the store with them unless DH comes (and even then, we both get stressed). So I usually go with my younger 2 while my oldest is at school. Again, stores with 2 is doable...stores with 3 makes me want to cry a little, haha.
My 3 year old walks while my 1 year old sits in the cart and we talk the whole time. I enjoy taking them!
