He had his first haircut at 20 months. He absolutely freaks out everytime. It's so hard. Some people say to start them younger so they're not scared but he was a bald baby so I couldn't start that young!

DS1 has had so many haircuts in his life. He had 2 before he was 1. He had a dozen by 2. His hair isn't even cut short...it just gets really unkempt at a certain length. I trim it most times, and he's really good about it. He's had it cut in a salon 3 times now, for special occasions.

DS2 is going to be 1 in a month, and he's just had some trims off the top....nothing I would call a whole haircut.

Mine had her first around her 3rd birthday just to even it out. She was nervous about it, so a few months ahead of time, DH started bringing her to the barber when he got his cut. She got to sit in a chair next to him with a lollipop, and after a few visits, she was excited to have him come with her instead.

M got a trim right before turning 3. I thought she'd freak but she loved it! We went to a kid's place and they put clips and glitter in her hair and gave her some small prizes after. I figure we'll do another trim this summer.

L had one at ten months and another after her third birthday. She was very apprehensive but got over it long enough to get a trim. She was very angry about it later and has since forbid me from doing her hair (pony tails, braids, etc.) where she used to be very willing. She only had maybe an inch and a half cut but is still bitter. I dread taking her in again.

My 16 month old daughter has had about 5 trims. I did it myself. The first time because it just wasn't growing evenly and looked weird. Afterwards, I liked how clean it looked and loved that it wasn't in her eyes anymore. So now I trim it frequently. It's easier if I divide the work into two sessions so she doesn't run out of patience.

Hopefully she will see hair trims as normal, not scary, events.

I do DS's about once a month, but I don't know what to do about DD's baby girl hair. Can your LO come watch you get a haircut to help her andiety? Or watch some YouTube videos of haircuts?

I'm convinced my daughter has the worlds slowest growing hair. Almost 2.5 and never had a haircut an this is all we have to show for it.

@anonysquire: my friends daughter is almost 4 and has less hair than that! It's crazy! Her hair just doesn't want to grow...

@hellobeeboston: ha! Same! DD1 was still pretty bald at 2. She's 4 and had one trim at home, just to even everything out when her hair finally started growing. She does get a bang trim every few weeks.

My kids came out needing hair cuts lol. They don't always love it, but they look so much better cleaned up and DH usually does it.

DS has had a ton. I used the scissors the first time but switched to a buzzer after that. I cut DH 's hair so I usually just cut his first and then DS. This last time I wasn't going do DS but when he saw DH getting it cut he asked and sat really still!

DD had her first haircut a few months after 3. She was nervous but one day decided she wanted one and we went for it. We went to a place that specialized in kids cuts, and she got to sit in a fire truck seat and they have TV on. She's been back for another since, as she has a bob and it needs to be cut often... but I LOVE her hair short and it's so much easier to take care of/less whining about tangles.

ds1 had 3 or 4 before his 1st birthday because the kid was so hairy, he gets one every month, it's a fun outing for us
ds2 just had his first at 13 months he did so well everyone in the salon was shocked (including me!)
