@erinbaderin: I'd definitely DIY something. If you can find a yellow hoodie sweater and glue a little black stem on top of the hood, a cream colored shirt, and find some leggings in yellow, brown, or black it could be super easy.
Also there's this: The 4-6 size might work because the sizing runs small.
ETA: I know they run small because we got my son a costume from that brand recently. He's 2 and skinny and fits the 4 size.

@tinyperson: @gingerbebe: Yeah, I think I'm going to go with DIY. I found this how to: http://mcewenandmcewen.blogspot.ca/2013/10/baby-banana-diy-costume-with-bonus.html?m=1 And I think I can modify it to be for a toddler and not a baby.

DS (2) is going to be a taco-loving dragon (ie: a character from the book Dragons Love Tacos, his current obsession). Basically, no one is going to understand his costume, and I will spend all night explaining that its from his favorite book.
(Dragon wings and tail, paired with an "I heart tacos" tshirt, and "Taco Cave" paper bag for trick or treating)

@tinyperson: I sew a little - the extent of my experience is 4 fitted crib sheets and 2 fleece car seat ponchos, but I think I can pull it off. We'll see!

Bulbasaur and Charmander! I always assumed that LO2 would just wear hand me down costumes, but every year they have matching costumes. While it's pricey, it's really cute, especially this year because they want to match.

DD is 6 months and is going to be a cabbage patch kid! It's pretty much a DIY costume, just a cute top and pants and a crocheted wig/hat from Etsy.

@erinbaderin: That is a great banana!
My son is going to be Oscar the Grouch, I'm going to be Big Bird and my husband will be Cookie Monster.
For Oscar the Grouch, I just bough green pants and a sweatshirt, I had a coworker make a green knit hat with eyes on top, and I'm making a trashcan out of hot/cold bag liners that I'll put on suspenders.
For Cookie Monster, we just bough a blue sweatsuit and had the same coworker make a blue hat with eyes and I still need to make some fabric cookies that I'm going to stick onto some gloves.
For Big Bird, I found a yellow skirt and top at Goodwill, I bought orange tights, that I'll paint pink stripes on, and I'm making a yellow feather headband thingy.

@erinbaderin: cute!
@csross217: great idea!
My 2 month old is dressing up as a skunk! Her nickname is Toots McGee. I hope she doesn't hate me when she's a teenager! I wasn't even going to dress her up since she's so tiny. But the Lucy Darling baby book i got her has a spot for "first halloween" so i bought the costume when I saw it go on sale.

DD 5 - ballerina (perfect we can use the expensive dance recital costumes)
DS 2 - shark (just a hat) with a white shirt and some silver basketball shorts
DD 3 months - leftover giraffe costume. She has a really cute orange chevron dress but I can't think of anything to make out of it.

For anyone who doesn't have a costume yet, I just thought of this yesterday.
Gap sells these really cute sweater/pants/knit bootie sets and the sweaters have bear ears. You could get all 3 pieces in a single color and your baby could be a gummy bear!
