My three year old just informed me he wants to be a "yellow monster." I guess I'm giving it a bit of time to make sure he's committed to this idea and then might try to do a family themed--all monsters. I like to look at primary.com 's website for inspiration (but have found I can get a lot of solid colored clothes on amazon more reasonably if we won't wear them again).

We (adults) don’t dress up but we did a kids theme where my baby was a monkey and then 3yo was a banana. Loved it!

This year 6yo wanted to be a genie (a la shimmer and shine) and I found an affordable purple costume on amazon that we love - I let her wear it early to get use out of it since she’s careful.

She picked out a pineapple costume for baby. Kind of silly for a tiny baby but we will enjoy it and we try to do several dress up things in October.

3yo is going to wear the fireman costume from M&D I found on prime day. He’s been wearing his too.

So no theme but everyone’s happy and not too $$$ which makes me happy! I try to buy at weird times or consignment sales to save.

Last year we had Thomas the train and Moana. Year before was Nemo and Aviva from Wild Kratts. Before that with just #1 we did a strawberry, a ladybug and Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. So fun to dress kids up!

@bhbee: It’s funny, we ALSO did a monkey/banana theme when my son was 3! In our case, I had bought them matching dragon costumes and my son announced three weeks before Halloween that he was going to be a banana and then he told EVERYBODY and I had to scramble.

I would have said we don’t do family costumes but I guess I do make the kids match - monkey/banana, and then last year they were Batman and Robin. This year my little guy is 2.5, bough, so he’s going to want to pick his own thing. At this point it looks like we’re going to have two Batmen.

This will be out first year doing Halloween! Last year DD was 10 mo old, and wore a skelton sleeper. We lost power for several days, so she had to stay at my parents for a week which totally ruined Halloween.

It was always a very important holiday is my house growing up, so I'm excited this year! However I can't sew and don't want to spend much money

I think we'd like to do a family costume with the three of us. DD will be 22 months, but I have no idea what to do! and preferable its something that comfortable and easy so she can wear it to daycare that day too.

She isn't into any characters yet except moana, and I don't see an easy way to do a family costume. We were thinking something Star Wars, because she could be R2D2 or BB8 and DH and I can be leia/han/rey/poe etc. We also won't be doing any havy duty trick or treating, probably just some trunk or treats the weekend before, and maybe a few houses on actual Halloween.

So send any ideas my way!!

We don't usually dress up as a family, although last year DS was a farmer in a CASE IH tractor (homemade) and DD (6 months) was a little cow. My step-daughter dressed up as a cow and I threw on some face paint to be a bunny and we went as our 'funny farm'.
The year before DS was a DIY lumberjack and was sooo cute. Bonus is that he could re-wear his entire costume. (carhart bibs and stocking hat, red/black flannel, work boots, and a plastic axe, with some eye-liner turned beard)

This year MIL bought DS a lion costume, so I want to try and buy or make a Dorothy costume for DD... she also got a unicorn I can fall back on though.

Just remembered the last one—age 4 -she was Ms. O. from Odd Squad.

Oh I also made a princess in black costume for my oldest last year for a school project. Totally semi homemade - Layered things we had, bought the cape and mask cheap (love anything that is reusable!) and made a flower belt out of felt. She wore it for a trunk or treat we did in addition to school.

Halloween is big in our house and while the adults never dress up, I always include our dog DD1 was an airplane pilot with our dog as her co-pilot when she was 18 months old. I made her airplane and we made it into a huffpost feature! The following year she was goldilocks and our dog was her "fourth" bear. Last year she was Princess Aurora, our dog was the prince, and DD2 was Maleficient. This year, the girls are much more opinionated to my great dismay It's looking like both girls will be Moana, and the dog will be Pua.

Anyone have an idea of how to dress a one month old as Sky or Everest from Paw Patrol? DS wants to be Chase or Rocky.

This year E says he wants to be a donut and A wants to be Elsa. We usually do some combination of store bought and homemade. DH has a lot of fun creating accessories, like a space ship or light up proton pack, so I’m not sure what we’ll end up with this year. We did a family ghostbuster costume last year, but now the kids have opinions, which is so inconvenient

@crazydoglady: Easy Skye costume... pink shirt with printed cardstock pup tag taped on the front. Pink ear flap hat with felt ears and goggles glued on. I think it would look super cute!

DS has been a lion and a Jedi (our decisions) and last year he was a fireman (his decision). This year he has flip-flopped between a fireman again, a Ghostbuster, and he's now settled on mailman.

I tracked down photos from the last 2 years...

His first year he was a lion, but we just sat on my husband's trucks tailgate and handed out candy. Last year (1 1/2 ish) he was Peter Pan, I made the hat, leggings, belt, and shoe covers (those were last minute). I bought an oversized green t shirt and cut & sewed it to fit. This year, I think I just settled on the man in the Yellow Hat since he's loving curious George right now.

@Sams Mom: Peter Pan! LO and I just watched Tinkerbell and could totally DIY some matching tinker fairy costumes.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: my son had never seen it before last Halloween, I just wanted to dress him up as Peter Pan . I thought about being tink with him and then procrastinated, oops.

Some people thought he was Robin Hood, still cute though.
