Loved the book!
Jelly head (I think that's what its called) worked wonders on my DS!

@LindsayInNY: DVD is so much easier to get through when you're sleep-deprived, I think!

I watched the DVD--definitely did not have time to read a book with DS1 (he sounds similar to your little lady at this point.) I will say, though, that we had to watch it with LO in another room--all the crying seemed to distress him! I thought it was very helpful.

we watched the DVD through netflix....5 S's were critical for the witching hour

@mrbee: I also thought it would be easier for DH to watch with me. He won't read the book.
@Mrs D: Does Netflix have it streaming or DVD only?

We watched a video on it in our birth class. The 5 S's were a lifesaver. If your DH won't read the book, definitely do the DVD. Or I'm sure you could find something adequate on youtube.

@LindsayInNY: We had DD 2 years ago and it was only DVD - but maybe it streams now?

Never watched it on DVD but I have the book and would be willing to send it to you.

@LindsayInNY: Yah totally!
One of the neat things about the 5S system, is that guys are often really good at using the 5Ss... because we tend to Shush and Swing so vigorously!

@LindsayInNY: You want the book? I got it from another bee on here and I can send it to you if you want! I'd say I'd hand it to you but I prob won't be in the city for a while.

Book is great but DVDs saves time! The 5 S's saved me in the first few months!!

I'd do the DVD. That's what DH and I did. He mostly thought it was crazy, but in desperation tried it and was surprised it worked.

DVD! the dvd went straight to the point, and had visual examples of the 5s. the book was a little long winded for me. they both cover the same material.

We did DVD. Like you I knew DH wouldn't read the book. We did it before she was born but I actually think after we knew what we were up against it might have been more helpful.

We watched the video through Netflix. Forget whether it was dvd or streaming at the time (3 years ago!). We used them extensively. I think I also found a good number of videos on YouTube for refreshers.

Read the book and found a YouTube video to see in person. I found one with the author doing it, which I found helpful. It was wonderful for our daughter! I couldn't have survived the first 8 weeks without it!

book is good, but DVD is really the most helpful--way better to watch the 5s in action than read about them.

DVD! I found it so helpful to see the moves in action. Lots of libraries have the DVD, if you can get there.

DVD because it showed how to do everything. I found in the early months that I had no time to read, but everyone is different.

I only read the book and enjoyed it. Didn't feel the need for dvd after that. Was a really easy read too.

DVD was quick, with visual examples. It was SO helpful those first few weeks

@MrsKoala: @snowjewelz: I'll let you know! I might try and find the DVD this weekend. I'm over the lack of naps and two hour bedtime routines!

No experience with DVD. Both DH and I read the book and both agrees it was the most useful thing we read prior to LO bring born.

i read the book while i was still pregnant, so time was not of the essence, but i still found there to be a lot of fluff. since you have a new LO on your hands, i suspect you want the techniques asap. i'd go for the DVD or see if there is a cliffs notes version online. This one looks good:

It is a LIFESAVER! I wish it still worked on my 13 month old...

We read the book during one of our worst colic nights with E. Can't survive right now without the 5 S's and our exercise ball. His toddler book is effective too.

I read the book, then wanted DH to know about it so I found the video on YouTube. So angry that I read the book when the 10min video was all you need!

I second the DVD. The book is informative in that it presents all the research and reasoning behind why the 5 Ss work, but the DVD gets it done. It's nice to be able to watch it being done so you know you're doing it right.
