I tried last night by threatening to cancel and switch to the DirecTV. No dice.
Anyone else been successful in getting a free upgrade by threatening to cancel?

Nope. We tried to just cancel cable but keep the internet. It was only, like, $15 less so we switched providers. FIOS is not at all lenient on their upgrade policy.

nope, but I occasionally check online (logged into my verizon) and change my plan based on promotions. I actually just bumped our price down $5/month by choosing a higher level tv package.

No, but I do need to try this with our internet company. Our yearly promotional price ran out and went up $25/month :'(

@locavore_mama: the lowest one for internet (most basic, works totally fine for us, but we don't have a home business or anything that requires more!) - and prime hd. no home phone. we have one dvr.
i usually add hbo when a good show is on (during true blood season, or game of thrones) and they've always offered me 50% off, so it is $9/month when we add it..then we just delete it when we're done
