We're not that picky about destination, so this seems like a great way to save money. I know a lot of people here do New York-Paris swaps through local parenting listservs. Have you ever done one? How did you find a family to swap with?

I did it once when I was single and swapped NYC for Paris for 2 weeks. I think I went through Craigslist. I ended up arriving in Paris the day before the guy left and we met up to exchange keys. It worked out perfectly, although, I don't think he appreciated how loud my neighborhood was compared to his very quiet one.

I've always wanted to...I'd have to convince DH though. I live in Hawaii. Our house is old but decent and we are bit out of the main drag. I think I would just go through friends of friends because it is kind of risky. I like to hear stories like the pp though! That's a happy ending.

This sounds cool and I'm jealous of people that can do it, but I doubt there's too much interest in trading for a place in the suburbs. Maybe one day I'll live somewhere cool enough to pull this off!

@808love: where in Hawaii are you? I'm in Hawaii too.
No I don't think I would. It would have to be friends of family or friends
