As a new parent, I was exhausted all the time, and the skills I learned weren't really transferable to the workplace - stuff like, how to put a baby to sleep, how to change a diaper with one hand, how to survive extended sleep deprivation, etc. I did learn how to ruthlessly prioritize my time though, which has been useful now that I have more of it.

And now that I've survived the toddler/threenager/is-my-child-a-psychopath stage, I feel like I just got a PhD in human psychology! I understand now much better the importance of following through on promises, creating incentive structures, modelling good behaviour, etc. It's all been surprisingly useful in the workplace! I never realized how much I didn't understand about what motivates people, until I had kids and had to figure it out in order to survive their childhood!

Has becoming a parent made you a better worker/manager?
