My credit card was used 7 years ago by someone who made a ton of online purchases. The packages were all shipped to an address in Michigan!
I got the charges reversed but it was a pain in the butt.

Yes, they stole my debit card numbers years ago. I actually got all of my money back into my bank account without too much of a hassle.

I've had one fradulent charge awhile back, and it was for Experian credit monitoring. How's that ironic for you?!
Someone stole the hubby's credit card number to order a TON of stuff in London. I'm a lil peeved the credit card company didn't contact us given that the purchase is totally out of the ordinary for us. We go the charges and fees reversed fairly painfree, so that was good.

Yes! They used it to buy expensive Lego train sets. Not sure how old the perpetrator was....

Unfortunately it happens to us every few years. Luckily, we have an awesome bank and usually they notice the issue before we even have a chance to and they call us. It's always been relatively painless to get it taken care of.

Yep. I got pick-pocketed in Barcelona several years ago. Despite canceling my cards immediately, the person still managed to use it for several weeks. Mostly they were making small purchases at tobacco shops, weirdly.

Oh that's no fun.
I had someone steal my identity and open up 15 credit cards and rack up $20,000 in debt in just 2 days. They even had a fake ID made with my name and address (their picture). So all of the bills and credit cards came to my address. It took me months to get it all sorted out and I had to put a freeze on my credit for 7 years to help prevent it from happening again.

Nope. Someone took out a small payday loan in my name though, which has been a pain to get off my credit report and there are always fake lawyers calling to try and scare me!

Yes but it was actually my mom's account that she gave me a card for when I was in college (for emergencies). I didn't even notice until she called me and asked why I was buying so many online games. I don't ever play online games so she realized that it was someone who had stolen my card number. I think they also bought an actual video game. The total was like $55 or something and the bank put it back into our account after a very short investigation.
@BabyBoecksMom: That's insane!
I don't think it was someone stealing his identity but DH found out when we went to apply for a mortgage that he had a bunch of medical bills (around $10,000 worth) that weren't his. The bank told us that if someone doesn't leave a social security number, they sometimes assign it to someone with the same name. The odd part was that we lived in South Carolina at the time of the charges and the charges were in Oklahoma and Ohio.

Right around Thanksgiving a few years ago. Nordstrom is awesome though. They figured it out, called me, gave me details about the incident and got rid of the charges. All in one call. I didn't even know what had happened but they identified irregular charges to some fake New Age spiritual organization. Yikes! I think it was probably a 'laundering' service since it appeared to be a charitable donation for $1000s of dollars. @autumnlove-do you know how it was stolen?

I've had to close 2 cards cause someone used my number to charge only about 100 bucks. Not bad, just annoying. Then someone got into my bank account and withdrew about 5k over 2 months before they finally notified me of "unusual activity". Considering it was an account I hadn't touched in years, and the withdrawals were all in Brazil, one might have thought they'd notify me a bit sooner.

No thank goodness! But my credit card company has deactivated my card once due to potential fraud.

Never. We had some fraudulent activity on dh's card though.

A few years ago my cc called me about some charges in the Netherlands. I told them they weren't mine and they were reversed very easily.
In the same year I had about $200of fraudulent charges on my iTunes account and it was the biggest pain in the butt to reverse. iTunes doesn't have customer support and kept blaming me for the charges (most were video games and movies in Chinese). After several weeks of back and forth with iTunes and my bank I finally got them reversed. And haven't bought music from iTunes since. I now download from amazon!
