My dog is almost 5 years old and has been diagnosed with severe bilateral hip dysplasia since before he was a year old. He's always been protective of his hips and will give a warning grunt/growl (not a full on growl) if someone comes too close to his hips that he doesn't trust. He has never shown his teeth or nipped. He is a sweetheart of a dog to people but only gets along with my parents' dog because he lived with her for his first 2.5 years.

However, today he did his grunt/growl twice at R. She was at least 18 inches away from him both times. She was in her SuperSeat on the floor the first time and playing on the floor the second time. Did your dog have trouble adjusting to your LO? Do you have any advice on how to help the process along?
