C's surgery is coming up in 2 weeks. It's nothing major... he just has to have a minor birth defect repaired. However, he will be put under for about 2-3 hours. I am dreading this. I've known he would need this surgery since the moment he was born, but now that's closer, my stomach is in knots whenever I think about it. 
If your LO has had surgery, how did it go? How did they do coming off the anesthesia? How did recovery go?

Oh hugs mama! He will be in my thoughts and prayers. Stay away from google searches. In the beginning H needed to be seen by a specialist because her head wasn't round enough after her 2 month well check. We had to get a cat scan and everything before we went to the children's hospital. I cried and cried. It turned out she was sleeping wrong in the rock n play and favored one side. So we had to rotate her sleeping style and put her in the crib. Her head is perfectly round now!

Hugs mama! We has to have L put under for a very very short time in order to get stitches in his tongue. The worst part was them trying of give an iv--it wasn't a children's hospital/unit so it took 1.5 hours of trying and they still couldn't do it. they finally gave him an injection and then it was fine! I sure your expeeience will be better than ours!!!

DS had his adenoids taken out and tubes put in about a month ago. It was a very quick procedure (20 minutes) but he was put under anesthesia.
He recovered very quickly - was playing and eating by late afternoon. But coming out of the anesthesia was the worst. He cried and kicked and was just totally out of it. People warned me. I hated seeing that but it also passed fairly quickly.
Babies are strong and bounce back quicker tha adults! I'm sure LO will do great!

My LO had to be out under to get her ear tubes put in when she was 10 months old. I was terrified. I knew it would be extremely quickly but the thought of her having an adverse reaction to the anesthsia really scared me. But she was totally fine. She cried pretty hard when she first woke up but as soon as she got to my arms she calmed down. She napped in the car on the way home from the hospital and was her normal cheerful self by the time she woke up.

@hilsy85: Oh my goodness, that sounds so stressful. We will be going to a children's hospital, so I'm hoping they know what they're doing!
@Mamasig: @MamaMoose: Yeah, I'm definitely worried about the anesthesia. I have fears of an adverse reaction or issues in surgery. I'm glad to hear that it didn't take your LOs long to wake up and be back to normal.

Hugs it's not easy but LO will be just fine! Our DD has been put under twice due to biopsies and scopes. It's never easy but at our hosptial they take her from us awake and bring her back awake, so we never see her under or with the IV. I freaked out at first, but now I see it as a blessing in disguise, I would not handle that well.

@Pepper: My LO had surgery when she was 8 months. The procedure took a couple of hours. Everything with the surgery went smoothly, but there was a really scary moment in recovery, and for a few minutes (they felt like an eternity), I didn't know if my LO was coming home. She has fully recovered and is doing beautifully. It may take a little longer for me.

My LO hasn't had surgery, but he had an IV at seven weeks old. We were at a children's hospital, and they had no trouble getting the IV in.

@LuLu Mom: Thanks! I'm conflicted because they said I can be in the OR while they put him under, but I'm not sure if I can handle that.

No surgery but we've had two ER trips, one with 911 and an ambulance. I know not the same but I just wanted to tell you that they will take great care of LO. R had to have an IV and numerous treatments. It was beyond scary but reassuring that we were in good hands, which I know will be the same for you guys.

@Pepper: good luck for both of you. Not sure if you remember my deal, but DS2 has had multiple surgeries. The last one, to insert the broviac line, was probably the most similar to what you will go through. I was never allowed in the OR though. Putting him under shouldn't be a scary process, although getting the IV may be since it will hurt. Normally they send the kiddos to a recovery room (where you meet them) until they finish waking up. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about logistics. They gave DS2 a mini surgery gown and non slip socks for his last surgery, and privacy to change, all of which cracked me up

@beaker: Yes, I do remember! I hope he is doing well. I don't think I would be there for the IV (maybe? Not sure), but they apparently initially sedate them with gas, and you can go back with them for that. I would have to laugh a little if they gave him non slip socks! If I think of any more questions I will be sure to ask you... though at this point I just feel like I want to stop thinking about it and just get it over with. If you know what I mean!

@Pepper: I think it's personal preference, I don't think I could handle it, but I think my DH would perfer to be there. I start crying every time she gets blood drawn I can't imagine an IV.

No experience with this but just wanted to send you hugs and well wishes. I can imagine how scary this is!
