Hi! Has anyone been on a Disney cruise? What did you think? I was thinking taking LO when he was around 3. Good age?

My SIL is on one this week and her kids are 4 and 6. That's all I got, though!

@littlek: My BIL and SIL went on one this year. They don't have kids, but they can't stop raving about it. They did tell us there are lots of areas and activities for kids. They're already planning their next one

@littlek: we were planning one for next December. E will be 26m. I think it's a bad idea because he will be young plus we may have a super young or newborn baby at that time! So I am trying to convince DH to do it the following year when LO is 3+ old. 3 is my youngest that I'd take. I think 4-5 would be even better because they'll remember it forever and that's the age they are REALLY into characters and movies. Knowing my son now, he would be very intimidated of all those people on the cruise.

@Cara M. 17: I want to go on a Disney cruise so bad, but DH said we need to make a LO first. It's nice to hear that people go without kids!

@CupQuakeWalk: my husband says 4 or 5. But, I'm inpatient and want to go sooooooo bad.

We went on one in April 2011 with my husband's entire family. Our nieces and nephews (x6) ranged from 9 months to 8 years old. The older kids absolutely loved it...as did the adults!!! Everything from the entertainment, childcare, food and amenities is done sooooo well.
Personally, I wouldn't bring a LO until at least age 4 so they can fully understand and enjoy how awesome it is.

@Sammyfab: how was it being on a ship with with so many other kids?
At what age do you start paying for the kids?

Subscribing as we want to go on one soon!! I think (don't hold me to this!) that the "kids clubs" start at age 3; which is a bit of an incentive to wait until age 3, although they have babysitting service available for kids younger than 3.
@locavore_mama: they charge for all ages (looking into pricing we put in LO's age as 2 and she was charged - although it definitely was not a full care rate). Doesn't look like they do under 3 for free like the parks!

@yoursilverlining: oh, lame! But at least it's a discount rate

@yoursilverlining: I was thinking at least 3 because I want him
Potty trained so he can use the pools.

We're thinking about taking one this winter! DS will be 2 and DD will be almost 4.

@littlek: let me know what you decide! I really want to go but really want to wait until she's four or five.

I'm thinking 4-5 would be the prime age due to the reasons PPs have mentioned (they'll remember/be more excited) plus-POTTY TRAINED. I can't imagine having a LO in diapers on a cruise but I'm lazy

@littlek: My brother and his wife got married on one in 2011 and we of course went. Out of the approximate 25 people who went, only 1 of the was a child! DH is totally NOT a Disney fan and he still races about the food and the overall experience to this day. He wants to go back on one! 3 is a good age because he can do some activities they have available and I guarantee you will want to do it again and again. If only they weren't so expensive...

@Mrs.Panda: I know I will definitely want to go again and again... I have wanted to go on this cruise forever!

We're waiting until our son is old enough to go to the activities alone. Right now there's no way he'd leave us even for a short time!

@looch: Aghhh, my son has no issue leaving us. He is very independent.

We went on a Disney cruise for our Honeymoon! It was absolutely amazing. The food, the entertainment, everything.
As far as being kid-free on it, we didn't even see the kids that much. During the day they were always at the clubs or kid pools (there's an adults only one) and we did the late dinner which had few kids.
Honestly, I don't know that I'll ever do a cruise that ISN'T Disney again.

@littlek: you don't know until you try! I think for some kids, vacation is a big change of scene, so they might not be as willing as they are in their regular stomping ground.

@locavore_mama: I love my nieces and nephews so it was super fun...but honestly, since we were kid-free at the time, we didn't spend TOO much time with them. There's an upper deck with a pool that is adults only and we spent a lot of time there!
Like pp have said, the food was phenomenal. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate. Also, we were at the early dinner seating (because of the kids) and I honestly can't remember being bothered by loud, whiny, unruly kids (but I'm a general lover of all children...not just the ones I'm related to ).
