I was called 8 years ago, selected and served on a civil jury for one day!
I was called again in January 2014 and deferred because I had terrible morning sickness. Then I got called again in August 2014, and called the court house because the jury date was the same date as my scheduled c-section! They deferred me to September 2015.
My husband was summoned a few months ago and served two weeks on a criminal case. He just filled out a form for a federal selection!

I've been called five times but only had to serve once. I was a student for most of them so out of state exemption. When I served I got picked for the jury but was disqualified from service because of my profession. I'm not eligible to serve anymore and it bums me out.

Yes, once and I ended up on a jury for a murder trial. It was awful. I had just found out I was pregnant with my son so that made it hard to take on. I wasn't sick or anything so I didn't really have an excuse to get out of it.

@oliviaoblivia: why are you not eligible to serve anymore?
@Mrs. Jump Rope: oh wow! I always wonder why some people get selected a lot and then there is me who has never been picked!

I was called in college when I lived out of state so I got excused. I was also called when I was about 30 weeks pregnant and had bronchitis. I had already deferred so I went and got selected for the jury. Fortunately I had an appointment with my OB the next morning and he wrote a letter excusing me, so I didn't actually serve.

Yes, about 4 times when I was away at college. They were excused and I haven't been called again.

Nope. Im 27 and have never had a summons. I did live overseas for a good chunk, though.

I was summoned last year for a criminal case. I was the second to last person to be interviewed for the jury selection. The seats were filled before my number came up so I didn't have to serve.

Been called about 5 times. Only had to go down once but I was dismissed mid-morning cause they already had enough people.

Yes, more than once, but I have never served on a jury, so I usually get a lot of reading done while I sit around and wait all day.

Yes, I think about 4 times, including the one that I just got in the mail. I was actually picked once for Grand Jury duty so I had to go to the courthouse at least every other Friday for three months to hear evidence and hand down indictments. It was really, really, really, eye opening and a little difficult in the small town area where I am from because I knew a lot of the people who had come through.

I've been summoned 3 times for state jury duty and once for federal. I was on one criminal trial jury (A&B and attempted murder) that lasted a week. I got summoned again shortly after that trial, but I didn't have to report since I had served on a jury in the past 3 years. The first time, I got out of a state level criminal trial (rape of a child, thank god I got out of that one) and I got out of a federal civil trial (a man with narcolepsy suing his insurance company) because I had a previously scheduled trip that would interfere (I had to show proof).
ETA: actually serving on the jury wasn't that bad. The most frustrating parts were that real life is not like Law & Order, so they don't DNA test everything (haha) or ask all the questions/provide all the witnesses that you want, and that you're not allowed to talk about the ONE thing you all have in common, the case, during breaks, so lunch was REEEALLY boring and quiet.

I was called in for jury selection. I sat in a waiting room for 3 days. I was not called and was dismissed. I just received a summon for grand jury. Not looking forward to it.

I'm a permanent resident so unable to serve. Sh has been called many times but always excused for one reason or another.

I've been called a few times. My first experience was when I was 18 was so awful I've never been excited about it.
I got called in college and deferred until I went home for spring break per the instructions. The whole thing was a disaster. They changed my courthouse mid-day and said I had 20 minutes to report to the jury room. I didn't have a car so I asked if I could take the bus but it would be 30 minutes. They made me ride in a car with another male jury member. He looked just as scared to have to drive an 18 year old girl in his car as I did to ride in a car with a strange man.
Once we arrived at the other courthouse we stood outside in the hot sun for 2 hours waiting for the judge to open the courthouse. I totally could have taken the bus. We could see the beach from where we stood but we weren't allowed to leave our single file line. I got super sun burnt - silly me for not bringing sunblock to jury duty.
When we finally got in the courthouse they said it would be a 4 week trial. I said I couldn't do it as I was a student with a one week break. The judge told me I wasn't excused. My only option was to defer but since I already re-scheduled once to serve during a break if I didn't show up whenever I was re-scheduled, even during finals week, I would get a $1000 fine. And keep getting that fine until I showed up. I cried. The judge yelled at me for crying. It sucked.
All the other times have been much better and I've never made it in the courtroom since. I'm hoping I paid my dues.

Yes, I was a juror on a domestic abuse case. DH was called recently but the cases scheduled that week settled without a trial, so he was sent home.

Never! A friend of mine is a defense lawyer and says they hate having engineers on the panel, anyways, heh.

I've been summoned many times but always have gotten out of it - initially because I was a student, and then every time after that has been when I've been living abroad. I'm still registered to vote in the States, despite still living abroad, and don't plan on giving up my citizenship anytime soon, so I imagine I will be summoned again, but will not be serving obviously.

@blackbird: When DH was called recently my mom said "oh he'll never be chosen because he's an engineer!" I was like "mom, there are 10,000 engineers in this town. They're going to have a hard time avoiding engineers completely!"

I got my first ever summons as I was about to go back to work from maternity leave in late 2012. I deferred a number of times due to breastfeeding. I haven't been called back since.

The first time I was called i deferred to 9/12/01 because of school. Needless to say, it was canceled.

I'm 30 years old and have never been called. It's a running joke with my parents that my dad hardly ever gets called and my mom gets called allllll the time.

@bunnylove08: Oh man I would actually really love to serve on a grand jury!

@blackbird: I got booted from the jury I was picked for because I'm an architect.

I was called first when I graduated college and sat on the panel for 2 weeks before I had to be excused (I told them ahead of time I was relocating and starting a new job). The second time, I had actually postponed a few times due to pregnancy/work/birth, and finally went two months ago to serve on grand jury. Turns out they had enough people for grand jury and sent us to be petty jurors. I got selected for a vehicular bodily damage case but on the day of trial, we were told the parties settled. I was actually looking forward to being a grand juror!

@lawbee11: I heard I have to come in for 6 months... so not looking forward to that

Called once, served once. On a gun possession trial. We actually found the guy not guilty. After we delivered our decision, we found out he was also being held for a murder.

@bunnylove08: yeah see my comment above. Mine was 18 months!! Work was not happy!!

I've been called quite a few times. I've had to apply for exemption 3 times and I attended court 3 times without being selected. I was selected about a year and a half ago for a criminl trial. We were there for 5 days or so and they went and cancelled it for reasons they couldn't divulge!! I had taken like 13 pages of notes! My aching wrist...
