So, I'm going back to work in September and my hair is finally slowing down in the falling-out department (ugh) and I'm thinking of getting a digi-perm.
Have you ever gotten one? Did you love it? Was it worth it?

i did but i got it too loose because i was afraid i might have tight curls. it made it look like i barely had a wave since i have a lot of hair that's heavy. i like the look on other people and would consider getting it again... i'd just get tighter curls.
it was pricey though and took over 4 hours.

@Mrs. Bee: My hair is super thick and heavy. Even with tighter curls, would it still look okay? Or would I look like an ahjuma?

@Rubies: the curls loosen a lot even if it's a little tight in the beginning. it depends how long your hair is. i would only do it if my hair is longer, otherwise you're headed into ajummah territory.

yessssss I got one and I LOVED IT!!!!!! It was pretty tight in the beginning but it relaxed after a few months and it was PERFECT EVERY DAY. Never had to use a blowdryer... just put a little product through it (I used Moroccan Oil), twisted it into curls and let dry. Plus there are ways to get the curls to relax rather than ways to get the curls to tighten, so I'd lean towards tighter curls than looser. They will loosen on their own over time anyway. If the curls are too tight, use an oil-like product to smooth them down.

I get them. I really like it since I just want a soft curl/wave. The only thing is it is time consuming...sitting in the chair for 4-5 hours is tiring.

@Rubies: don't perm your hair!!!!!! You'll regret it. Your hair is gorgeous

Nope, I've got natural curls. I tend to straighten it when I go to work though because its just easier to deal with. The other day I wore it curly at work for the first time in ages and everyone thought I had gotten a perm. Haha

@Rubies: mom and sisters have all gotten perms and tell me never to get one. You have great hair..

I've never gotten one because I have naturally wavy hair. But people will ask me if I got a digi-perm because that's kind of what it looks like, just loose waves. I use Moroccan Oil too, like @tina does, and it makes it less frizzy. I LOVE that stuff!
Anyhow, I love having wavy hair because it always looks done up. I say if you want it, go for it! It's only temporary anyway.

I've only ever gotten regular perms (twice, I think). My hair is PIN straight and really fine, so any help I can get is awesome. That being said, after about 3 months, I was kind of over it...and it took MUCH longer than that for my hair to straighten out again.

Digi-perms are supposed to be different than traditional perms, but no matter that, definitely get a consult before you do it and go to a reputable place that does them a lot. They should honestly tell you if you're a good candidate for it.
I got it done in 2009 and it was great. I'd probably do it again in a year or two to change things up. I do get Japanese Magic Straight every few years to lessen hair frizz, so I get sick of having straight hair here and there. I love Magic Straight though because I don't need to do much after air drying it. With the digi-perm I had to put some mousse and scrunch up my hair for the waves to take shape. Everyone's hair takes to it differently. My hair is thick and heavy.

I wanted to get one so badly, but my hair wasn't long enough for it at the time.
Now, I am trying to grow out this postpartum hair loss mess, and when it's at a reasonable length, I'll look into it again for sure. I really think it will help with the manageability.

My cousin just got one and loved it! She had to go back because she got it too loose the first time like @mrs.bee -- she loves it and I think it looks great!
I wanted to get one, but I think my hair is SO thick that it would just fro up, no matter how tight or loose I got one... My hair's kinda half wavy on its own, so I try to just gel it when I can -- I WISH I had pin-straight hair or digi-perm wave hair instead of this in between crapola!
