These are a holiday staple in my family, though I've never been brave enough to try to make them. But now that I'm thinking about it, I may have to try this year. Mmmmmm......
I'm thinking of going with this recipe. From what I've read, the sour cream in the dough is the key to deliciousness.

Yes! My mom's side of the family is of Slavic ancestry and her aunts still send them to us for Christmas. I am not much of a fan, personally, though my mom adores them.

Yes! We make them and they're delicious! Our recipe doesn't contain sour cream, but is still delicious nonetheless!

Yes my family calls it potica though. I made a double batch from scratch with my dad this year. I've almost learned it enough to make myself.

@meredithNYC: we're Croatian, so that's where we have always gotten ours from. Little old ladies make the best bread, in my opinion!

@LovelyPlum: The sour cream is important but the yeast in the dough is really tough to get right (warm dry environment). I just am not familiar with yeast and dough kneading but I just haven't had experience with that.
My dad also works really hard to get the dough rolled out really thin so there is a lot of "rolls" to it. So good!
Also, we immediately freeze ours (wrapped in tin foil) and take it out when ready to serve.

We call this Kuchen and make it without that sour cream. We do a nut filling and poppyseed filling.
