We hope to have one this Saturday! I've never had one before so I'm actually really excited. We have a TON of stuff to get rid of so I'm going to price everything to sell. I think Charlie will have fun, and Olive can just hang out.
Any tips for me? Also do you buy things from yard sales?

I love having them (minus the organizing) and I love going to them! I have gotten great deals, and at my own I've made a good amount of money.
A tip I learned from a friend... Set out coffee or lemonade at a small table to the side. People tend to browse longer and buy more for some reason when you do this. I have noticed myself doing it too!

I have never had a garage sale but love going to them. I may consider it the next time we have a neighborhood garage sale to get rid of some extra stuff. Maybe not... I enjoy going to them more. I bet you will have an awesome stoop sale!

My tip would be to start early!! You'd be suprised to see how early some yard sale shoppers start!

Start the night before. Start organizing everything into piles, then use stickers or tags for pricing. Be willing to haggle on these and if you aren't, make a note on the price tag about that. 'Bottom Line' or 'No Haggle'. Maybe make a list of the items you're selling to keep up with them and as a place to jot down how much you sold them for. I concur with @CottonCandy, start the yard sale early. A lot of people start around six or seven in the morning going to these things! Bizarre but true. Keep big ticket items close to your base of operations and never lose sight of your money tin/pouch/ what have you. And keep lots of change - 1s, 5s, quarters etc.

I've found adult clothes (even super nice ones) do not sell well in our area so we price them at a quarter.

We helped my parents with one a few years ago. It was scheduled to start at 7:30 but people were there trying to poke around at 5:00am!!

They are so much fun. Make sure you post signs and an ad on Craigslist to let people know the details. List a few big items you will have (baby gear, clothing, fur iture, etc).

@T.H.O.U.: it was too cold, there was very little foot traffic, and we were only outside for 2 hours. so we ended up making $47, and giving almost everything away for free to neighbors and random people. but i don't care -- i didn't want it back in the house, and got us in the mindset to continue purging! I'd like to get rid of at least 30% of our belongings before we move later this year. one less thing we have is one less thing to pack!
