My right eye is goopy, red and it won't close all the way. So irritating....maybe it is pinkeye?
I have a Dr's appointment later today. Have you ever had pinkeye or an eye infection? Did you get any type of drops?
I hope my LO doesn't get it!

My LO had a "runny eye" and to be safe the Dr. gave us drops. I've never had it though.

I've had it twice since thanksgiving- both times I was able to get some drops for it.

Yep, I had pinkeye and a sinus infection at the same time once. They gave me eye drops for the pinkeye.
That was the only time I've had pinkeye and it was when DH first kissed me so I knew then that he had to like me quite a bit because I looked kind of gross between the pinkeye, a sinus infection, and I had broken out pretty badly for no reason.

I haven't had pinkeye but my LO has. Her eye was red and there was a lot of greenish discharge. She got drops and it cleared up in a day! I was so scared I would get it or that it would spread to her other eye but fortunately neither happened.

have you been sick? it could just be viral, in which case you don't do anything to treat it. if it's bacterial then you treat it. i've had both, it is annoying more than anything. at least for me, the bacterial version has more eye gunk involved and usually is first noticed upon waking when you can't open one of your eyes because it's crusted shut, often you have to leave a warm washcloth on it to loosen the crust so you can actually open it. the viral one had less crust and was more leaky with watery discharge, also gross. i get a lot of kid illnesses, haha.
hope your eye is better soon!

I had it when I was a little kid. I had antibiotic drops and used warm compresses on it. It's so gross! My eyes would crust over and I couldn't see out of them in the morning. My mom had to bring me wet rags. Ugh, so so so so sick. And make sure you wash your sheets or ANYTHING that touches your face in HOT HOT water or you can keep getting reinfected. Don't reuse your pillowcase, for example.

@Mrs. Bee: I don't have any fresh milk! I don't think pumped milk from August will work!

@autumnlove: raw cow or goat's milk is supposed to work too.

@autumnlove: omg this is what Wagon Sr. has!!! His is the viral kind (@mrs. bird I cannot believe how accurate your descriptions are... you really have had a lot of kid illnesses!!!) so yes, it's just watery and not very goopy and they did give him antibiotic drops but I don't even know if they did much since it's viral. Poor guy, it was SO swollen for like 2 days and he wore an eyepatch under his glasses. Today it's almost completely better. Thank God!!!

Ha, I was going to make a pinkeye thread....duh. I have it again and this time it is miserable, crusty and painful. I hope it clears up soon because I'm going to be embarrassed to pick up my kids from Daycare if I still look like this. I guess I could wear sunglasses indoors!?
Anyone go through pinkeye recently? How long did it take to clear up?

I got it in high school of all places. I woke up and couldn't open my eye- it was crusted shut. And it was very red. I got drops for it and in a day or two i looked normal again. Hope whatever it is heals up quickly!

Yes! Just about 3 weeks ago. I'm still not completely over it. My eyes are still gooped shut in the morning. But the actuall pinkness was gone in about 2 days after I started drops.

@kjpugs: @MamaG: goop eyes are so gross, I think most of my eyelashes fell out this morning when I was scrubbing the junk off!

I used to get that and other infections alot as a child. I found that a hot compress made out of cotton wool in freshly boiled (slightly cooled) water worked better than any eye drops BUT I was never given antibiotic eyedrops as a pp suggests.

I got it for the first and only time a few years ago on a trip to Argentina. Symptoms started showing right before we headed home. I was afraid they wouldn't let me on the plane, but that was no problem. The 10 hour flight with pink eye was not fun, though. I guess I got drops, went to the doctor and got some prescription and it quickly cleared up. So sorry you have it and hope your LO doesn't get it!
