@locavore_mama: Like the town we are going to. We have a daytime wedding and no sitters at home. DH wants to hire someone to watch our LO's in our hotel room....I'm kinda nervous about that idea!

@autumnlove: I would be too!! Can you ask the bride & groom for any recos?

@locavore_mama: I asked yesterday when they sent me a text reminder to RSVP and they didn't have any suggestions. The wedding is on a Friday so it eliminates a lot of our usual sitters.

since i have good experiences with a similar site for local babysitting i might consider it if i arranged it in advance and had time to check refs and meet with the sitter for a brief interview and to get a sense that they are normal before actually leaving them alone (ideally we would meet the day before I needed her).
If i just found a sitter online though and met them shortly before i go out, i would feel like i am just leaving LO with a complete stranger.
ETA: the more i think about it, the harder i think it would be to actually do that!!! maybe i would consider it if there was time and money to pay for babysitting the day before the event and i am there to see them in action before leaving them alone...

I've felt comfortable with all the folks I've met/interviewed thus far from Care.com. Granted, I selected people to interview who were older, college educated, experienced, and had well written cover letters and good references/reviews. I think a FaceTime, Skype, and or in person interview in advance would help a lot. Good luck!

I would try contacting the hotel and see if they have a service they can recommend. For my wedding our hotel had a nanny service they used, so I talked with them on the phone and got everything arranged for the people we were providing child care for.

@autumnlove: Dude, call the concierge desk at the hotel and ask for reco's on babysitters/services they use. We did this on our last business/pleasure trip where we took E and it was awesome. Licensed, bonded, insured through a service. She was an ECE who makes a little extra cash doing this at night. She brought toys and E was a dream for her. She went down to sleep no problem and the sitter just sat and watched TV until we got back.

I'd like to say I'd be comfortable with this, but honestly I'd be super nervous b/c I'm just a nervous nellie!
If you're uncomfortable with a stranger, can you bring one of your regular sitters with you instead? It would be more expensive b/c there would obviously be more hours of paid time involved, but could alleviate some of your worries...

@autumnlove: At our wedding we hired Guardian Angel Sitting Service and they were amazing. Not sure where your wedding is, they have a limited area they cover. Have you asked the bride/groom if they have friends who have babysitter recomendations?
