Nope. But it's more because of their specific situation than just on principal. Both of my in laws smoke which grosses me out. And their house only has one full bathroom so I never feel comfortable when we stay there. When I have to pee in the middle of the night I'm always afraid someone else is going to be in there. And I always feel like I have I rush when I shower. Plus once LO is here I could see my MIL giving lots of "suggestions". I could totally move in with my parents though (for a short time). They have finished basement with a full bath, living room, and a huge bedroom so it would be very comfortable for us. And they are a lot more understanding about letting us do our own thing.

we lived with my parents for about a year. it wasn't ideal (even more so for my husband), but we made it work, and saved a ton of money. my brother and his family are taking their turn now! he is in a similar situation as you. he can't get into his home loan until october, and his lease ran out. he is married with three kids (luckily my parents have a big house), and they'll be living there 'til october. it's not the perfect situation for anyone, but it's totally doable short-term.

we rent the other half of the ILs duplex. they live in the other side. does that count? LOL!

My BIL lives with us right now. He's been here since March and is moving out next month. It hasn't been bad having him here, but I'm ready for our house back. It would be hard to live with my MIL even though I love her tons. I think it would be hard to feel like an adult.

I love my inlaws. But I'm not sure our relationship would survive if I moved in with them. If I want to continue to love them, I will stay living in separate houses.

We lived with my inlaws for about three months before moving to Canada.... it was a means to an end but I'm lucky in that they're very lovely people. I did learn though that even the lovliest people can be difficult to live with... sometimes just because they're so lovely and occassionaly, I just want to swear or gossip

My situation is a different from most. We stay with my in-laws almost every weekend. They have a family farm and DH works there on weekends. They have a medium sized ranch, and we stay in DH's old room. Since BIL/SIL moved out, DS is sleeping in the extra room. It's gotten a lot harder since we had DS. They are great people and they love us and are very supportive, but they are also overbearing, opinionated, and always around. I feel pretty judged by them with how I parent DS, and recently I had a big fight with my FIL. We resolved things, mostly, and are still going there on weekends.

But, even with all of that, to save that much money while looking for a house, I think I would suck it up and live with them for a few months, as long as there was a time limit. I'd be VERY clear with DH about boundaries and such, and put a good amount of responsibility on him to run interference if there were issues. And if something happened with the house hunting process, I'd be looking for another place to rent. I wouldn't want our stay to be indefinite.

If it was just my MIL and we were doing it to save money to buy a place, yes, I could do it. I would worrry about my family visiting, though. Would they have a place to stay? Would they be welcome or feel uncomfortable there?

We stayed for a couple of days during construction. I think we could make it work if needed but during those couple of days I just didn't know what to do with myself. I sort of hid out in the bedroom the whole because I didn't feel at home at all.
