I really want to try but am super nervous to start!

i made one. I bought a plain, cheep, hollow door at home depot, some batting and fabric. I put the batting around the door and stapled it to the back with a staple gun, then did the same with the fabric. The door is the perfect size sideways for my king sized bed - just mounted it on the wall. Super duper easy, cost less than $50

I made one. It turned out pretty ugly. I stretched this satiny fabric around foam and plywood to make a headboard but I couldn't get it pulled evenly and it just looked dumb and cheap. But just because I couldn't do it doesn't mean others couldn't

I have not, but I've seen a ton of tutorials online for them!

I think if I were to do it, I would buy one of these boards and then just upholster it (after getting the foam, batting, etc...) http://www.readytocover.com/custom-twin-headboard-40-inches-wide.html

I made L's headboard!! It wasn't anything fancy or difficult. Piece of plywood, foam, fabric, stretch tight and staple on the back.
I had dreams of doing a tufted headboard but chickened out
One tip to learn from my experience, make sure your fabric is turned the right way so you don't have a sideways headboard after all that work

@Mamaof2: those are cute! Much cuter than the cheep door i got to cover - like this:

The only reason i used a door is because it is thicker than plywood and the dimensions were perfect so i didn't have to cut the plywood. and it's super light because it's hollow.
but you could definitely buy a cuter door (try habitat for humanity restore - the ones in our city have hundreds of old doors) Then you could paint/distress it or if you find a cool enough one you woudln't have to do anything other than hang it
we mounted with one of these things:

We made our entire bed! I think just a headboard would be pretty easy.

My husband made our entire bed! Depending on what you want to do, I don't think it would be hard. I'd love to make an upholstered one for our guest bed!
