I have never missed a flight before. I do have this vague memory of missing a connecting flight but that wasn't my fault.
I know there were a few times I thought I was going to miss it but I managed to get to the gate in time.
ETA: So something I was always curious about, do you usually have to pay to get onto another flight?

Yes, once, because there was a truck that had spilled rebar coming out of the Lincoln tunnel and we were absoultely stuck.

Yes, once. When I was traveling ALONE in Europe when I was 21!! I was in London heading back to Florence Italy where I was living for 4 months for art school. Missed the last flight to Florence so grabbed a flight to Bologna, arrived at 10pm where the entire airport was closed on a sunday evening and grabbed a car/van shuttle for flight attendants/pilots to a nearby hotel! Took the first train in the morning back to Florence in time for class. Soooo stressful! And my Italian wasn't great!
Never missed a flight since.

once, and it was an ex-boyfriend's fault. boooooooo! we were ldr and I was visiting him, completely dependent on him for transportation, and he screwed it up. last time I ever saw him, actually, but I dumped him for other reasons

yep! in vegas with my boss. we cut it WAY too close on a southwest flight and they gave away our seats. luckily flights were every hour going home and we managed to make it on the last one.
i've missed way more trains though!

No but almost. When my husband and I were going on our honeymoon last year our flight was late arriving into Athens. Then we got stuck in a long line going through customs or something. We went to check into our flight to Santorini and they said they were holding the plane but it was too late to check our bags. So the lady said to bring them to the gate. We got to security and they freaked out (obviously ) because we had all our liquids in our suitcases. The lady was screaming at us, I started to cry ( traveling for like 15 hours or more at this point, I was exhausted haha. ) My husband said the lady at the counter told us too, so then they called her, it was a disaster. We finally got on the plane and it had waited for us for probably more than half hour. Everyone looked so mad. It was the last flight out for the evening so I'm glad we made it

There was a flood in the tunnel under LAX and they shut down the streets. I had my husband and in-laws with me. I was able to drop them off but had to return the rental car. Never made the flight. Luckily my friend lived close by to pick me up for the night. I was really annoyed by the booking lady. She was lecturing me on being on time for the flight.

@MamaJ: Yeah, I think that's why I get so nervous when and if things run late. I have no idea if they are going to charge me $100 or $300 to get the next flight.
I did fly Alaska recently and I was worried about missing my flight. I called them up and Alaska said they allow you to change to another flight as long as you leave the same day for free. (Of course, that's if there's a seat left.) I'm not sure about other airlines.

Yep, once. on our anniversary trip to cabo! we got stuck in construction on the highway and miscalculated our commute time too. anyway, they tried to get us on flights that day, but they were all full-- had to wait til the next am, but it was free and we got upgraded to first class too.

yep! on our honeymoon. psa-don't book a flight at 6am the day after the wedding! we were flying to get to a cruise and so we missed the cruise boarding and had to fly the next day to the first cruise stop. memorable honeymoon for sure. i don't remember having to pay extra. it was kind of AA fault tho, they were majorly backed up at the counters.
another time i had to run to catch a connecting flight on my way home from a business trip. i made it with like 10 min to spare, only to sit on the plane for 2 hours due to mechanical delays. and my luggage still didn't make it!!

Yep once! It was the day before thanksgiving and it was my husbands fault. He thought we had all the time in the world. Little did he know, holiday traffic is worse!
We had to leave the next morning to a different airport and had to pay way more than we liked.

I've come close a few times (mainly connections, so not really my fault, and otherwise because of certain family members *coughDHcough*). I've never actually missed one though.

Just once on a flight from London to Paris when I was a student. I messed up the times and ended up spending the night in Heathrow, which is no fun at all.
I didn't have to pay any fees to get on the next flight in the morning, but I think I had to do standby.

Once, but it wasn't my fault. When I studied in Spain, we were in Italy for the weekend, and one of our friends took so long to get ready to fly back to Madrid that we missed our train to the airport and ended up missing our flight by a few minutes. We ended up having to wait 9 hours for another flight, missing our afternoon classes in Madrid. I had a group project due the next day, and my group was in Madrid.... needless to say, it was a nightmare.
