To answer your question, yes I have. There comes a point when there is just too much blantant ignoring of rules and requests on my son's part and he loses things like reading before bed.

I have sent him to bed without dinner, but when he asks for a snack, I can't refuse him. We have a lot of eating issues going on and if he asks for more food, I give it to him.

I put him to bed immediately, no story, no singing, just bed. And he slept longer than ever.
I think he was just incredibly overtired. And I just got a text that he's napping today, also rare.

There are nights when my LO refuses to eat dinner. After 2 bites she says she's all done. After a few, "are you sure? no more dinner later" warnings, I stop offering. She gets some milk before bed as part of her routine so that's the end of it. And I'm okay with it. One night won't kill them. I don't know if that's really punishment since she's the one willingly not eating, but I'm also not going to chase her around the house to eat either. We haven't gotten to the stage yet where threats don't work anymore. If I threaten to leave the room, she immediately stops what she's doing. She may whine that I'm threatening to leave but she stops. I know the day is coming when she will definitely try to out-will me... i just hope it's not anytime soon!

yep. D has had several bedtimes like this in his life.

No, like @Mrs. Jump Rope: my DD is in a lower percentile for weight so my heart just won't let me. I would cut out stories if I felt her behaviour really warranted it.

If I feel like she's saying she's "full" at dinner because she'd rather have a snack, I'll let her go to bed hungry.

Also, yes to toddler hell at bedtime last night. Daddy's out of town and I'm not willing to "snuggle" with her for half an hour after pjs and story time. She lost her little mind and I closed her door and let her scream. I think she's old enough to understand. I think she throws fits when DH is out of town because she needs to test the limits.

I try to remove food from reward/punishment so I've never put her to bed without food.

I've threatened loss of story time when DD is misbehaving. That threat has always made her shape up in a hurry, but I am aware that I may have to follow through on the threat some day.

As for dinner, I have never threatened to take dinner away from my daughter. She does get her chair pulled away from the table if she tries to throw food. She has also sometimes mostly missed dinner on occasions when she is throwing a temper tantrum and gets too worked up to eat her dinner. That happened once this past week. I tried everything to get her to eat, but in the end we just had to start moving on to bedtime routine. She was exhausted.

He has once or twice. But we don't send him to bed without giving him a hug/kiss, so he knows he's in trouble, but still loved, if that makes sense.

@looch: @locavore_mama: completely agree that it's so important to talk about what happened later on once they are calm. Kids understand so much and I totally know my LO gets it...even from a young age. I definitely notice that she is exceptionally well behaved the few days following a "punishment". And we limit bedtime stories to 3 books as well.

B loves to eat, so we haven't had issues at meal times. We have issues with him being not wanting to listen. I've started counting to 3 or threatening time outs. He hates time outs so we have not had to cut out story time yet. But I would if he was being naughty.

@jmarionsmith: at 21 months, we are starting to enter the "that's yucky" "that's hot" "that's spicy" "don't like that" ect. stage. I could give her a slice of cheese and she would use all of the above excuses, really gets frustrating at dinner time now.

If he isn't eating (just throwing food and screaming) then we will do bedtime early and just give him a milk sippy instead. I beleive he gets the same amount of calories, but he's not allowed to play with his food. Bedtime comes and he gets milk.
We actually do reading time before his nap, not bedtime.
