Mind sharing?
When the weather isn't great on weekends, we try to do something fun inside. We have a bunch of locking containers we store under our daughter's play table with colored rice, slime and sand in them. She also has containers with animals to play with in these things and some sorting tins/buttons of various colors.
I'm always looking for new fun things to give her to play with.
Side note - any good play dough recipes that don't need to be refrigerated (homemade)?

There's one for cloud dough that is cornstarch and hair conditioner that i don't think would need to be refrigerated? I haven't made it yet, though

@blackbird: cloud dough makes me ragey. It is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo messy. Quite possibly the worst thing I have ever given my child to play with.

@Mamaof2: not yet. We went to the lego store a few weekends ago and she had a blast playing with them. We do have MegaBlocks. Is it time to move up to Duplos? She doesn't use the MegaBlocks a lot. She'll be 3 in June.

@mediagirl: My DD never liked MegaBlocks so I got some duplo and she loved them - she is at the perfect age for them!!

I make play doh using just flour and olive oil... it is kinda cloud-y (i.e. messy) but I think you could just up the oil content to make it less powdery! I just keep adding the oil and mixing until it is the consistency I want. Keeps indefinitely as long as its airtight.
My DS also loves playing with water - I just fill up the baby bath tub, add a bit of washing up liquid and give him a whisk to make bubbles and lots of cups etc. for pouring. He leans over from the side and makes a big mess but clean up is a joy when the 'mess' is soapy water!

I just let lo play in a sink full of soapy water with his trains! kept him busy for a good 30 minutes and the only cleanup was pulling the drain and changing his wet shirt. We will be doing that one again!

"Painting" with just plain water and colored construction paper. Easy, cheap and the biggest potential mess is a puddle of water!

@Mrs. Lion: ooooh. While we don't have trains, we do have a lot of cars. Maybe we could do a car wash! We have a learning tower so I could prop that up against the sink and let her go to town sometime. @bubbles: love the water play ideas!

Last weekend we I squirted cheap tempera paint in XL ziploc bags (yellow and red in one, blue and green in the other), sealed them up, taped them onto her play table with a piece of white paper underneath for contrast and let her go to town "painting." She loved it! She kept going back - and no mess

Her favorite right now is painting and arts & crafts, particularly using scissors. My ILs put together a art suitcase for her full of paper, stickers, coloring, markers, crayons, paint, etc. she'll just sit at her table and open the suitcase and just color or cut paper.

LO loves to sort beans. I also made this numbers game, I wrote numbers from 1-20 on popsicle sticks. She gets to holdthem, throw them on the floor, and then I ask her to find me numbers.
We also paint a lot and we just got a board game for ages 2.5 and up that she wants to play all the time.
