Just for fun, have your LOs had any of this stuff?! And did they like them? You can comment below and add in any other foods your LO likes that isn't super common.

LO 1- Most except rambutan, pickled ginger and okra.
LO 2- just a few things!
nectarine / 2878 posts
I have given him some fried okra and he liked it There are so many things on this list that I want him to try but he is in a super picky eating phase. Maybe DS #2 will try some of these before he gets picky too.

I answered my own poll wrong, because i didn't realize I had it set on only 1 vote---just changed it to multiple!

He's had olives! haha
I thought he had tried quite a few different things, but I clearly have to work on it.

Loves olives, curry, and beets. Has never had any of the others. And I haven't had most of these either!

We gave her oven fried okra one night and she didn't even touch it.

She loves Sardines. She eats them all the time. She also likes olives, curry and she used to like beets. She has recently decided that she no longer likes most vegetables though.

We tried beets and she wasn't a fan. I don't like a lot of the stuff on that list so I never think to even buy it.

I was reading an article a few days ago about most disliked superfoods with accompanying recipes to make them delicious. And I realized that I haven't served LO a few things because *I* don't really like them, but now I decided I need to get over that and make them anyway, just to expose her to them.
Like..I used to not like brussel sprouts, but now I love them and LO does too. I don't like beets, buy MIL makes them all the time so I need to figure out a way to get LO used to them (I still eat them when MIL makes them, I just think they taste like dirt and would love to find a recipe that covers that dirt flavor up). Sardines have so much vitamin D I want to get her eating those.
But we have about half that list to get through still (she's only 15 months tho and has only like eating since after 12 months).

@BKCaribBaby: do you just buy the oil or water packed type of sardines and let her eat them from the can? Or do you prepare them in some way?

My kid is seriously in love with black olives. Dh taught him how to put them on his fingers and he is obsessed. We asked him what we should name his sister and he said "oyoh" which is how he says it haha
grapefruit / 4988 posts
Yes, she's had black olives (did not like), beets (sort of liked), eggplant (did not like), and both japanese and thai curries (liked!).

We gave LO brussels and artichoke hearts. She didn't really like either. She loves curry, though!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
She's had olives, curry, and kimchi. I'm just not sure I've had any of the other stuff in the past year to give her!
eggplant / 11824 posts
LO has tried okra (fried – what’s not to love about anything fried!), eggplant (fan), olives (fan of all kinds), beets (fan), curry (ate some, but hard to give her because I like mine SPICY), artichoke hearts (MIL always puts them in salads, both LO and I are not fans), brussel sprouts (fan), sardines (didn’t like). I can’t remember if she has had pork belly; it’s really popular in our town right now so there’s a good chance she had it while we were out, taking a bite of something pork belly we ordered, but I just can’t remember.

@Anagram: so, the caf at work makes a salad dressing out of just pureed mango and beets...it took me a bit to work up the courage to try it, but I was surprised at how good it tasted!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Anagram: I roasted beets and they were so good! I didn't give them to LO (she wasn't eating finger foods yet), but I imagine that she would like them. They were very soft and tasty.

LO has had beets (hated), olives (hated), and eggplant (loved -so I make it a couple times a month).
eggplant / 11824 posts
@Anagram: We mainly just roast them. Remove the skins, cube, toss with olive oil and roast. I used to think I hated beets until 1) I got them from the farmer’s market, or locally grown; and 2) I roasted them. I think buying them in-season, grown locally makes a huge difference in flavor. Some things are fine grown and shipped and others just don’t really taste the same. And roasting just makes everything better.
We also have them roasted, and then with a little balsamic and goat cheese. You can add arugula and candied walnuts to make them into a really great salad.
Oh, and in borscht. YUM.

DS LOOOOVES sardines, yuck!!
My daughter really loves brussels and limas.
nectarine / 2771 posts
She's had olives, kimchi, pork belly, and Lima beans. She liked them all, but she's relatively easy going with food.
honeydew / 7091 posts
Oh man, olives of any kind are her absolute favorite food!
She's also had roasted beets and brussel sprouts - both are pretty common on our dinner rotation
She loves beans so she's definitely had a lot of lima beans
She's had artichoke hearts in pasta salads a lot - loves of course.
nectarine / 2054 posts
These are some of DS's favorites - olives and beets. He also really likes brussels sprouts and eats eggplant when we have it, and had raw tuna the other day (loved it).
pineapple / 12526 posts
She has had lots of different kinds of olives and hasnt found one she doesnt like. Shes had curry (not a fan) and sushi but not sashimi.
pear / 1799 posts
We are vegan, and it's really important to us that she tries (and hopefully likes) all the foods we can give her. She's had everything on here that's vegan.
honeydew / 7444 posts
LO loves olives (kalamatas) and beets (roasted). I am pretty sure she once ate a few beets in one sitting.
She liked curry when she was younger (11-13 months) but not so much these days.
eggplant / 11824 posts
@loveisstrange: oh yeah; sushi! My LO has had sushi too, but not sashimi. She has liked the sushi she's tried.

@avivoca: @NavyRN2012: how do you guys make the limas that your LO loves them? we have tried giving her frozen limas, but they are just hard and she's not a fan. do you do anything special with them?
eggplant / 11408 posts
We are doing beets tomorrow! They are my absolute fan, so I hope she loves them!
I'm also super excited to give her leeks.
